Mechanical QA/QC Engineer – Detailed Job Description
Job Title: Mechanical QA/QC Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and inspect mechanical installation activities at the project site.
- Ensure all mechanical works comply with approved shop drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements .
- Prepare and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) , checklists, and quality procedures.
- Prepare and submit Material Inspection Requests (MIRs) and Work Inspection Requests (WIRs/IRs) .

Inspect installation of:
- HVAC systems
- Chilled water piping
- Ductwork
- AHU and FCU
- Pumps
- Valves
- Cooling towers
- Ventilation and exhaust systems
- Plumbing systems
- Fire-fighting systems
- Mechanical equipment and piping
- Inspect ductwork installation, supports, insulation, dampers, access panels, and related accessories.
- Inspect chilled water piping, pipe supports, valves, insulation, pressure testing, and flushing.
- Verify installation of mechanical equipment according to approved drawings and manufacturer recommendations.
- Conduct inspections for pressure testing, hydrostatic testing, flushing, cleaning, and equipment installation .
- Review and verify material certificates, test certificates, and approved material submittals.
- Ensure materials delivered to site comply with approved specifications and project requirements.
- Identify non-conforming works and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare and follow up on NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), observations, and corrective actions .
- Coordinate with consultants, clients, subcontractors, engineers, and site teams for inspections and approvals.
- Review Method Statements, Material Submittals, ITPs, and inspection procedures .
- Maintain QA/QC documentation, inspection records, test reports, and quality logs.
- Ensure mechanical works are coordinated with architectural, structural, electrical, and other MEP services .
- Participate in site inspections, quality meetings, coordination meetings, and testing & commissioning activities.
- Monitor testing and commissioning of HVAC and mechanical systems.
- Review testing and commissioning reports before submission to the consultant/client.
- Assist in preparing as-built drawings, operation & maintenance documents, and final handover documentation .
- Ensure all outstanding quality issues are closed before project handover.
Testing & Inspection Knowledge
The candidate should have experience with:
- Hydrostatic pressure testing
- Chilled water pressure testing
- Duct leakage testing
- Flushing and cleaning of piping systems
- Air balancing / TAB
- HVAC equipment testing
- Pump testing
- Functional testing
- Insulation inspection
- Welding inspection
- Pipe installation inspection
- Equipment alignment and installation checks
- Testing & commissioning documentation
Standards & Codes
Knowledge of applicable standards and requirements such as:
- ASHRAE
- SMACNA
- ASHRAE/SMACNA requirements for HVAC works
- ASME
- ASTM
- NFPA , where applicable
- Project specifications
- Local authority requirements
- Client/consultant quality requirements
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering .
- 3–7 years of relevant QA/QC experience in mechanical/MEP projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, chilled water, piping, and mechanical installation works.
- Good knowledge of ITP, MIR, WIR/IR, NCR, Method Statements, and inspection procedures .
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
- Experience in high-rise buildings, commercial buildings, residential projects, hotels, hospitals, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
- UAE/GCC experience is an advantage.
- Good communication, coordination, reporting, and documentation skills.
