Your opportunity

We are seeking passionate and experienced Counsellors to join our GambleAware Program across the Tweed Heads and Lismore regions.

This rewarding role provides support to individuals, families, and communities impacted by gambling-related harm. We offer flexible working arrangements and part-time opportunities ranging from 14 to 28 hours per week, making this an ideal position for professionals seeking meaningful work with work-life balance.

As a Counsellor within the GambleAware Program, you will provide high-quality therapeutic or financial counselling services to clients experiencing gambling-related issues. You will work collaboratively with clients to identify goals, develop practical strategies, and support positive outcomes through evidence-based interventions.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Deliver confidential counselling and support services to clients affected by gambling harm via face-to-face, telephone, and online modalities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop client-centred support plans.
  • Provide information, advocacy, referrals, and case management as required.
  • Maintain accurate client records and reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders and promote GambleAware services within the local community
  • Facilitate group support sessions to address gambling harm in the community.
  • Regular involvement with community engagement activities, including talks, presentations, outreach and attendance at events, interagency and liquor accord meetings
  • Maintain accurate, confidential client records and data in line with funding requirements

Requirements for success

To be successful in these roles, you will possess qualifications and experience in one of the following areas:

Gambling Counselling

  • Bachelor level Counselling/Psychotherapy qualification or Diploma of Counselling
  • Current membership of a relevant peak professional body or association such as ACA or PACFA
  • Demonstrated experience providing counselling and support to individuals experiencing gambling harm, addiction, or other complex issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement tailored treatment plans supporting client recovery and wellbeing.
  • Current NSW Driving licence

OR

Financial Counselling

  • Diploma in Financial Counselling and membership of FCAN or close to completion of study
  • Previous experience in financial counselling or a financial services organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in financial assessment and provide financial counselling.
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation and information pertaining to financial issues including current debt practices, bankruptcy legislation and consumer credit law
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
