Cummins seeks a Gas Genset Engineer for a full-time onsite role in Abu Dhabi, demanding 8 to 10 years of hands on gas engine genset experience (250 kW to 2 MW) and the ability to diagnose, maintain, repair and optimize performance on engines from Cummins and other OEMs. Expect troubleshooting with Cummins Insite, real time combustion analysis with Testo 350/340, component overhauls, sensor calibration, and ensuring safety and ISO 9001 compliance. A mechanical, electrical or mechatronics degree with OEM training and schematic literacy is preferred, plus travel willingness and a valid driving license. To apply, tailor your resume to emphasize gas system expertise, combustion tuning, CHP/biogas work, quantify improvements, and showcase clear concise reporting.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with natural gas or biogas engine-driven generator sets (gensets), capable of performing diagnostics, maintenance, repair, and performance optimization of gas engines from leading manufacturers such as Cummins
Requirements
- Education: Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering
- Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of hands-on experience with gas engine gensets
- Technical Skills:
- Familiar with gas engine systems (ignition, combustion control, turbocharging, cooling)
- Experience using Testo Analyzer (350 or 340) for combustion tuning and emissions measurement
- Proficiency in mechanical overhauls and control panel diagnostics
- Knowledge of gas supply infrastructure, including solenoid valves, regulators, filters, and safety shutoff systems
- Certifications: OEM-specific training (e.g., Cummins, etc) is a plus
- Others:
- Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics
- Willingness to travel and work on-call when required
- Valid driving license
- ISO 9001 and DMS knowledge or background is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
- Conduct root-cause analysis on engine performance issues using diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Cummins Insite, Woodward ToolKit, or equivalent).
- Perform real-time combustion analysis and exhaust gas measurements using Testo 350 / 340 analyzers.
- Interpret engine fault codes and operational data to isolate mechanical, electrical, and control issues.
- Maintenance & Repair Engineer Support to Service Teams
- Provide engineering support to service teams in preventive and corrective maintenance on gas-powered gensets (250 kW to 2 MW range) when needed.
- Provide engineering support to service teams to carry out overhauls on engine components such as cylinder heads, turbochargers, pistons, liners, ignition systems, and crankshafts when needed.
- Provide engineering support to service teams to replace and calibrate key sensors (lambda, knock, MAP, oil pressure), spark plugs, and filters as per OEM guidelines.
- Performance Optimization
- Monitor and fine-tune gas supply pressure, mixture quality, and air-fuel ratio to optimize combustion and generator efficiency.
- Adjust mixer and pressure regulator settings, accounting for variations in calorific value and gas quality (especially in biogas applications).
- Work with CHP (Combined Heat and Power) systems and ensure heat recovery units function optimally.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed technical records.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to clients and internal teams.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
Additional Local Responsibilities:
Travelling – Job requires extensive travelling inside and outside the country including low security level countries within Cummins Global security guidelines.
Trouble shooting – Logical approach to resolve functional issues in electrical equipment.
Experience & knowledge:
Generators Synchronization – Working Knowledge on Control Systems, interlocking systems.
Knowledge in reading drawings/documents – Electrical drawings, PID diagrams, layout drawings, mechanical GA drawings, equipment interfacing documents like cable schedules, interconnection schedules
Sufficient knowledge on Cummins power command control PCC Digital Master control DMC Onhand experience complex troubleshooting and project handling exposures.
