OceanaGold is seeking a Geologist for Mining on a 2-year fixed term contract based onsite in Waihi, NZ, to support the Waihi North Project including Wharekirauponga underground development and surface drilling. The role focuses on lithological, structural and alteration logging, grade control, core logging, and timely data capture to underpin mine design, ground support, resource modelling and development decisions, while supervising field crews and ensuring safety and QA/QC standards. Ideal candidates hold a tertiary Geology qualification (BSc preferred), 1–2 years post graduate experience in underground geology or geotechnical logging, and experience with drilling programs; drivers license and manual vehicle capability are required. Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground gold mine. A recent consent for the Waihi North Project, a new mine to be developed 6km north of the existing operation has provided a long-term extension of mine life providing our 400 staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.
This is a new role, created to provide geological and geotechnical logging, mapping, and field support for the Waihi North Project. This includes Wharekirauponga Underground development and surface drilling programmes. Primariliy responsible for the capture of accurate, timely data to support mine design, ground support, resource and reserve modelling, and development decisions, while supervising field contractors and maintaining safety and quality standards.
