Job Description

This is a key role for OceanaGold, as exploration drilling continues at the Wharekirauponga low sulphidation epithermal Au-Ag vein system. The role is key to success for OceanaGold’s discovery and Reserve replacement programmes and creation of long-term value. The role provides assurance of geological data collection, management, and use, provides expertise in generative, exploration, and operational geology teams, and manages the team and budget to deliver on the objective of discovering additional resources for OceanaGold.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates visible field-based safety leadership, empowering individuals, and take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of employees and hold direct reports accountable for the same.
  • Spends time in the field mentoring less experienced geologists, leading field safety programs, and nurturing relationships with contract service providers.
  • Executes the defined exploration strategy through developing and costing exploration work programmes that drive replacement and growth of the asset base through discovery and resource conversion.
  • Develops and proposes a budget to support work programs and reports in a timely and accurate manner project-level expenditures, variances, and forecasts to ensure the programs are completed within budget.  Is accountable for identifying and implementing cost efficiency improvements.
  • Maintains in good standing an effective tenement management system to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the land holdings of OceanaGold.
  • Accountable for timely and accurate monthly reporting of progress to plan, technical reporting as required (including NI43-101 reports), and ad hoc reporting to support effective decision-making.
  • Monitors and identifies business growth opportunities for additional discovery within the orbit of the asset.
  • Identifies, builds, and develops talent and capability in the department including a pipeline of talent for key positions.
  • Maximises drill rig efficiency and productivity (cost and metres) through effective contract management.
  • Works in close collaboration with Environmental and EA&SP teams to ensure appropriate consultation, permitting, access agreements, and environmental management conditions are met ahead of execution of exploration programs.
  • Builds and maintains effective communication and engagement skills to work at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Geology (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 15 years of geology-related work experience in a mining and exploration environment.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role
  • Energetic and field-oriented with a clear and personable communication style.
