Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship office is in Sydney, Australia, but we've made our way from down under, to a hub in San Francisco, which is now home to our US operations. We offer flexibility in how and where you work. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

About the Role

FP&A is on a journey to deliver a step-change in financial sophistication and rigour that will drive Canva’s growth! Empowering our business leaders by connecting strategy, goals, planning, and execution we act as trusted business partners whose perspectives are valued and sought after.

Tech & Product Finance owns the economics of Canva’s technical engine — the infrastructure, cloud, compute, GPU, and AI investments that power our products and increasingly define our cost base and margin profile. As Canva becomes an AI-native company, these are the fastest-growing and most strategically important lines on the P&L. This team partners with Engineering, Infrastructure, Product, and Machine Learning leaders to provide line-of-sight into future spend, advise on the capacity and investment path required to get there, and provide deep insights that optimise cost and inform decision making. This is backed by strong technical know-how, whether it be capacity modelling, cloud and compute economics, cost allocation, AI inference and training cost, or gross margin domains.

You will drive increasing and powerful decision making through the implementation of thoughtful frameworks, processes, mechanisms, and data. You are an outstanding coach and mentor that will see your effectiveness multiplied through the growth and development of your team.

What you’d be doing in this role

  • Own the financial planning, forecasting, and stewardship of Canva’s multi-billion dollar technical cost base — spanning cloud, infrastructure, compute, GPUs, data, and AI — bringing together all contributing elements across Engineering, Infrastructure, Product, and Machine Learning.

  • Own capacity planning for infrastructure and GPUs, building driver-based models that tie compute demand to product usage, growth, and unit economics.

  • Drive AI cost optimisation - partnering with technical leaders to reduce the cost of training and inference, improve utilisation, and de-risk our largest infrastructure exposures.

  • Own the cost allocation and chargeback methodology for technical spend, ensuring a single, defensible source of truth that reconciles cleanly into the company plan and gross margin.

  • Enable reporting & insights across the technical cost base, in partnership with other groups across Canva, and contribute to a culture of performance and delivery

  • Connect long range strategy to operational planning and execution for infrastructure and AI investment decisions

  • Partner with FP&A, Engineering, and business leaders to manage financial performance across the technical cost base, implementing planning frameworks, mechanisms, processes, and systems along the way.

  • Deliver increasing efficiency to our financial close and reforecast cycles, partnering closely with the broader FP&A, Finance team, and technical leaders.

  • Design, build, and implement planning and reporting cadences at the executive and leadership level.

  • Act as a key partner in determining efficient capital allocation and investment decision making for infrastructure and compute.

  • Partner with technical and business leaders to build driver based forecasts that encourage execution, performance, and efficiency.

  • Partner with other finance teams across accounting, tax, and treasury to deliver finance team goals.

  • Lead, grow, and develop a motivated team of finance professionals

You're probably a match if

  • You have deep technical expertise, operational skills, and a proven record of leading and scaling Tech, Product, Infrastructure, or COGS FP&A teams — ideally including cloud, compute, GPU, or AI cost economics — in a US public company environment

  • A deep understanding of technical organisations and the ability to partner credibly with Engineering and Infrastructure leaders, translating complex technical dynamics into clear financial narratives.

  • A strategic mindset that connects infrastructure and AI investment decisions to long-term company growth, unit economics, and gross margin. Demonstrated commercial judgment and creative problem-solving abilities.

  • Brilliant communication and stakeholder management capabilities that enable you to collaborate effectively with senior technical and business leaders across the Company to achieve desired outcomes.

  • An exceptional leader with equally impressive coaching skills. The ability to motivate teams to deliver against complex goals in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.

  • A leader who continually pushes the boundary, willing to reinvent and elevate a high standard on an AI-native finance team, improving and elevating processes and systems to bring increasing value and efficiency to what we do.
