Airwallex is hiring a full-time inbound business development representative to join its SME & Growth team in Auckland, and the role is based onsite. You’ll own the early part of the sales cycle, turning interested small-business leads into signups while coordinating with colleagues across the business to smooth onboarding and ensure compliance. If you enjoy speaking with customers, closing deals, and helping small businesses access cross-border payments, this could be a fit.

Airwallex began in Melbourne in 2015 with the aim of building the infrastructure real-world commerce relies on. Today they operate as the regulated backbone behind global payments, with more than 85 licenses and a footprint spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The company is co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore and employs over 2,300 people across 27 offices. They seek builders who move quickly with good judgment, act from first principles, and bring real curiosity to the work. Their operating principles guide how decisions get made and how teams collaborate.

Joining the New Zealand team represents a chance to contribute early in a growing market and help shape Airwallex’s local success. As an early member of the NZ crew, you’ll be part of a distinctive growth phase and have a hand in influencing how the business scales here.

The inbound path for NZ SMEs

Your days revolve around managing small-business inbound leads from first contact to signup. You’ll reach out to prospective customers, gather the information needed to move forward, and aim to close the signup. You’ll also work with stakeholders across the company to optimise how leads are handled, support the onboarding of new clients, support compliance needs, and share insights with the Growth team to improve targeting and messaging.

The essentials and the extras for this role

Here’s what will help you succeed in this role.

  • A track record of 1-2+ years in sales with demonstrable success
  • Strong interpersonal skills and clear, effective communication
  • A genuine interest in technology and/or financial services
  • Self-directed and able to operate in a high-growth environment
  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification

  • Start-up and fintech exposure

Tips for applicants

Lead with your sales results and inbound experience on your resume so the hiring team sees your fit right away.

Show concrete examples that prove you have the must-have skills: how you’ve handled customer conversations, closed deals, and kept insights flowing to cross-functional teams and CRM systems.

Be ready to describe how you qualify prospects through focused questioning and how you would explain Airwallex’s value to small businesses dealing with cross-border payments and onboarding.

Ask about the NZ market and what success in the first 90 days looks like, plus how onboarding and compliance processes are integrated with growth goals.
