Company Description

Company Description

Mai te hiku ki te taurapa, whitikina e te rā
From the tail of the fish to the tail of the waka, shines the sun

This whakataukī speaks to our journey across Aotearoa, one waka, one purpose, powered by the natural forces that sustain us. Meridian is Aotearoa’s largest renewable electricity producer, generating energy from the winds of Tāwhirimātea, the waters of Tangaroa, and the warmth of Tama-nui-te-rā.

Together, our two brands, Meridian and Powershop retail electricity to more than 400,000 homes, businesses and farms across New Zealand. Now that’s a pretty impressive combo!

The opportunity

DigiGen is driving the next evolution of our Generation business  - a multi-year programme that will supercharge how our team works by using digital tools, data and new ways of working to get the best out of our assets, so we can deliver value back to the business – it’s an epic opportunity.

Mō te tūranga | What you’ll be doing

As soon as you start, you’ll be leading the squad behind one of our most exciting pieces of work — Asset Condition Monitoring and Work Identification. Sound technical? Put simply: you’ll help us determine what work we need to do on our assets using insights from real-time data instead of our traditional calendar-based approach. You will lead the demonstration of this paradigm shift along with the resulting savings in O&M costs and an increase in asset availability.

You’ll lead a squad of SMEs, data analysts, delivery managers and any more capabilities you need. Your role will help them break down the work so we can deliver value quickly and show progress early. There’s plenty of room to take calculated risks, experiment, learn, and shape how this all comes to life.

You won’t be doing this solo. You’ll work closely with engineers, IT, commercial advisors, site teams, data teams, and leaders across the business to understand what matters, build trust, and make sure what your team creates actually gets used. You’ll own the measures of success and help turn ideas into real outcomes on the ground.

There’s great support around you too — agile coaches, a strong PMO, and a wider Generation community all backing you. It’s a brilliant chance to grow your leadership capability while doing work that genuinely matters.

Experience in a generating asset environment helps (there’s a lot of jargon in the mix), but what we really care about is someone who challenges the status quo, can realise the value and doesn’t shy away from figuring things out as they go.

And the best bit? You get your own pilot generating unit as a testing ground — a space to experiment, iterate, and prove the value before scaling it out.

As the wider programme expands, you’ll be asked to lead other initiatives that transform how we look after our assets.

Ngā painga ki a mātou | What we can offer

We value work/life balance, so our WFH and flexible work options (where possible) make things easier for you and your whānau. We also offer:

  • An attractive and competitive salary package that’s reviewed annually, performance incentives, plus discounts from several partnerships.

  • Southern Cross Healthcare - Wellbeing One insurance, a funded scheme for eligible employees to give you that extra peace of mind.

  • Enhanced leave provisions: three company-paid days (over the holiday period), enhanced parental leave and options to buy up to 12 days of additional leave.

  • Life, trauma and income protection insurance (which we hope you won’t need!).

  • Enhanced KiwiSaver contributions.

  • Access to the Meridian employee share scheme.

  • Excellent learning and development opportunities, we want you to be the best version of yourself, and we'll help you get there!

  • Award-winning wellbeing programme that provides support whenever and wherever you need it.

  • Employee discounts off your power with Meridian, every bit counts.

  •  A one-off $400 payment to support your work-from-home set-up (if needed).

Ngā pukenga kei a koe mō tenei tūranga | What you’ll bring

  • Strong, people centred leadership — you’ll guide the squad, help them grow, and create a team vibe where everyone feels supported, focused, and proud of the work they deliver.

  • Great communicator who builds trust quickly, brings people with you, and creates solid relationships across the business.

  • Good sense of how things work in an asset environment (Generation experience is a bonus). If you’re new to Agile, no stress — we’ll teach you what you need.

  • A natural problem solver who can cut through complexity, turn technical detail into plain English, and keep the team moving when things get tricky.

  • Experience delivering work in a structured way — setting goals, breaking the work down, and keeping the plan up to date as things evolve.

  • Curious, openminded, and always looking for better ways of doing things — you’re not afraid to challenge how things have always been done.

  • Someone who keeps people and value at the centre of decisions — you want whatever you build to be understood, used, and genuinely helpful for the people on the ground.

  • A good collaborator who works well with other Initiative Leads so the wider programme stays aligned and connected.
