Shaping how AFCA colleagues stay informed

AFCA, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, is hiring a skilled Internal Digital and Communications Advisor to join its Communications & Brand team in Melbourne. The role runs on a 10–12 month contract and combines internal communications with digital content responsibilities, with a hybrid setup that generally includes two days a week in AFCA’s offices. The company sits at the heart of Australia’s financial dispute resolution landscape and values flexible work options, an inclusive culture and opportunities to deepen expertise.

In this position you’ll help more than 1,500 staff receive timely updates, access trusted knowledge and feel connected through the intranet, Knowledge Centre and other employee-facing channels. It’s a good fit for someone who can turn complex information into clear, engaging material and who knows how to use digital channels to help people find what they need quickly and easily. SharePoint familiarity is important, but the emphasis is on strong writing and content creation across digital platforms.

What you’ll actually do each day

You’ll write, edit and publish internal communications and news across AFCA’s digital channels, keeping content fresh and useful for staff while supporting organisation-wide initiatives and priority campaigns. You’ll also shape content for the intranet, Knowledge Centre and other employee-facing platforms, partnering with subject-matter experts and business stakeholders to translate complex topics into practical, easy-to-understand material. A key focus is making information easier to discover, working on navigation, search and user experience within digital channels, and you’ll build and maintain SharePoint pages that are clear, accessible and visually engaging. In addition, you’ll guide content owners and publishers with practical coaching and publishing support, while contributing to ongoing improvements in content quality, governance and the overall employee digital experience.

Must-haves, and what would help

The team is looking for someone who blends sharp writing with hands-on digital publishing experience and internal comms know-how. You’ll have:

  • Experience delivering internal or employee communications, content publishing, or a related communications role.
  • Strong writing and editing skills that turn complex ideas into concise, engaging content.
  • Experience creating or managing content on SharePoint Online or similar intranet platforms.
  • Confidence partnering with subject-matter experts and stakeholders to develop clear communication solutions.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to contribute positively to team culture and outcomes.
  • Experience producing accessible, user-focused digital content and online experiences.
  • A naturally curious mindset and a drive for continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves that would help, but aren’t required, include the following benefits and recognitions AFCA highlights in its information package:

  • Gold AWEI Accreditation 2025, recognising LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion.
  • Accredited Family Friendly Workplace, indicating support for work-life balance.
  • Hybrid working arrangements with two days in AFCA’s offices designed for collaboration and wellbeing.
  • Additional inclusive leave options, such as flexible public holidays, gender-affirmation leave, women’s health leave, and extra time off over the end-of-year holiday period.

Pay, benefits and practical details

AFCA awards a full-time role on a 10–12 month contract based in Melbourne, with hybrid arrangements that require two days per week in the modern office designed for collaboration and wellbeing. The employer describes its culture as inclusive and people-first, with flexible work options and thoughtful benefits aligned to diverse needs. The posting does not list a salary figure, so please expect this to be discussed during the recruitment process along with other conditions.

Advice for applicants

Lead your resume with your internal communications and digital publishing experience, then show specific examples of how you’ve made complex information clearer for staff. Highlight your SharePoint Online or intranet work and any measurable improvements you’ve driven in content accessibility or findability.

When you interview, be ready with a short case study: describe a time you translated a detailed policy into a practical, staff-facing article, how you collaborated with SMEs, and what the outcome looked like in terms of engagement or usability. Focus on governance and how you’ve helped maintain content quality across channels.

Think about how you evidence collaboration: share a concrete example of partnering with a subject-matter expert to produce a piece of content that balanced accuracy with readability, and explain how you ensured accessibility and user-friendliness throughout the project.

Ask a smart question about the intranet’s future: how does AFCA measure the intranet and Knowledge Centre’s success, and what upcoming improvements are planned to enhance how employees access information and knowledge?

How to apply

If fairness inspires you and your background aligns with this role, AFCA invites you to apply.
