Inventory Specialist

Walgreens
Full-time
On-site
Hillsboro, OR
$36,000 - $46,000 USD yearly

Walgreens is hiring an Inventory Specialist to join its Hillsboro, Oregon store on a full-time, onsite basis. The role spans both front-end and pharmacy inventory, with a focus on keeping products available, accurately priced, and properly stocked. This is a good fit if you like working with numbers, organising stock, and helping customers find what they need.

The company behind Walgreens operates nationwide as a pharmacy-led retailer, and this position works closely with the pharmacist-in-charge and store leadership to maintain inventory across departments. You’ll be involved in receiving, counting, ordering and returns, while helping ensure planograms are correct and that assets are protected. In designated stores, you may open or close the shop in the absence of store management and take on related cash-handling and cashier duties to get the day started or wrapped up.

If you’re detail-minded, enjoy multi-tasking, and communicate clearly with teammates and customers, you’ll likely feel right at home in this role. You’ll also contribute to the Walgreens customer experience by greeting shoppers, offering help with products and services, and resolving issues when you’re the leader on duty to keep things running smoothly.

Stock inside and out: daily routines

On a typical day you’ll implement inventory best practices across both front-end and pharmacy areas, including receiving, counting, placing orders and processing returns, while validating that planograms line up with what’s on the shelf.

You’ll review reports and work with the store’s systems to keep on-hand balances and pricing accurate, and you’ll help protect assets by handling overages, shortages, order errors and damaged goods, including prescription items. In stores designated for the role, you’ll open and close the shop when needed, manage required system start-ups, handle cash and cashier duties, and ensure the floor and stockroom are ready for business.

Day-to-day operations also cover coaching teammates on inventory workflows, managing deliveries (including One Box receiving and common carrier deliveries), and ensuring vendor orders are posted correctly. You’ll supervise pharmacy shipments, monitor recalls, and complete pharmacy-related postings, while managing end-to-end On-Shelf Availability for planogrammed sections, disposals, returns and scan-outs. You’ll handle pharmacy inventory activities such as recalls, vendor returns and damaged salvage, and support pricing tasks like price changes and signage accuracy. In addition, you’ll oversee ordering of expense items, monitor for excess orders, and maintain consigned inventory as needed. Keeping all counters, shelves and stock areas clean and merchandised is also part of the job, along with staying familiar with store systems and equipment and supporting package deliveries and the Pickup Program. If you’re the leader on duty, you’ll manage related sales on the POS system and handle tasks such as price verifications, returns, refunds and cash handling as needed.

Throughout the day, you’ll help maintain regulatory compliance for products like alcohol and tobacco, assist with inventory record keeping, help with physical inventory days, and support the third-party audit teams. You’ll work to keep inventory counts accurate across the stockroom, basic departments and pharmacy, and you’ll participate in ongoing training and safety requirements to stay current with Walgreens standards.
