We’re looking for an experienced Leading Hand (Carpenter) to join our Civil Construction team in Auckland.

Project Scope: SH1 P2D (Stage 1B) is part of a staged upgrade to improve SH1 and adjacent multi modal travel reliability, access, and safety. Stage 1B ties into Stage1A, NIMT Bridges, and completes a combined 6km of three laned SH1 in both directions, six new motorway bridges and multiple interfacing local roads, over motorway bridges, Shared User Paths (SUPs) and upgraded utilities.

You will be leading a crew of carpenters and labourers on the project. No two days will be the same in this position with leadership being the key to success, as is excellent communication and organisational skills. You will have an eye for detail and the ability to think on the spot to resolve operational issues as they occur.

In addition to the above you will:

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of carpenters, apprentices, and labourers.
  • Actively perform the duties along with the team and operate machinery, hand tools.
  • Perform formwork, steel tying, concrete and general carpentry activities
  • Allocate tasks, set priorities, and monitor progress against programme.
  • Attend and contribute to daily pre‑start and toolbox meetings.
  • Prevent rework by checking measurements, levels, and details before and after installation.
  • Communicate material and equipment requirements in advance to the Engineers and Foreman.
  • Assist with recording daily site diaries, labour hours, and variations relating to carpentry works.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Hold a trade qualified NZ Certificate in Carpentry or Concrete Construction
  • Hold a class 1 full licence, WTR is advantageous 
  • Good knowledge of reinforced concrete structures, materials, methods and tools involved in road construction and maintenance including reading construction plans
  • Has 5+ years’ experience in construction industry
  • Proven experience in leading teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good knowledge of operating hand tools, and smaller light plant
