You may provide in-class support or small-group pull-outs as appropriate, and you’ll deliver one-to-one support for learners with significant differences identified through external evaluations.
You will also observe and evaluate students, work with teachers to provide classroom-management guidance for identified learners, mentor aides and support staff, and coordinate communications with parents alongside the classroom teacher and school leaders. Collaboration with the school counsellor and external specialists helps inform regular feedback to the principal and deputies.

Tips to stand out for this role
Lead your resume with your teaching credentials relevant to the role, such as a BA/BSc with QTS or a PGCE/MA in Special Education (or an equivalent qualification like B.Ed or CAPSAIS/CAPA-SH). If you have Speech and Language Therapy experience, feature it prominently.
Show concrete evidence of the must-have skills by describing interventions you’ve planned and delivered, how you supported learners in 1:1 and small-group settings, and how you tracked and reported progress, including any records you maintained for IEPs or similar plans.
Be ready to discuss your approach to learning differences and collaboration with teachers, school leaders, parents and external specialists, as well as how you’ve used technology (IPADs and regular office software) to engage students and monitor outcomes.
Ask a precise question about how the school coordinates Learning Support with the School Counsellor and external professionals, how IEPs are written and updated, and how progress is communicated to principals and deputies. This shows you understand the role’s ecosystem and the importance of ongoing feedback.
