Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The School of Education and Social Practice within Te Pūtahi Mātauranga | Faculty of Arts and Education is seeking a Lecturer in Counselling to contribute to our postgraduate Counsellor Education Programme.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the education of future counselling professionals through a programme that combines counselling theory, research and supervised professional practice. You will contribute to postgraduate teaching, research supervision and curriculum development, while maintaining strong connections with the counselling profession and wider community.

We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in integrative counselling practice and professional supervision. Expertise across the wider counselling curriculum is also advantageous, particularly in areas such as trauma-informed practice, counselling children and families, or culturally and contextually responsive practice.

Key responsibilities include:

• Teaching and contributing to the development of postgraduate counselling courses.
• Supervising Master's and doctoral research students and contributing to curriculum development and scholarship.
• Developing an active research profile and contributing to collaborative research.
• Building strong relationships with the counselling profession and wider communities, and contributing to the academic and collegial life of the Programme, School and Faculty.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) permanent position (subject to continuation).

The workload split is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service.

The salary range for this role is $99,788 - $119,204 per annum.

Remuneration depends on experience and achievements, and is aligned with our Academic Standards policy.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You are a qualified and experienced counselling professional with expertise in integrative counselling practice and professional supervision. You bring a strong commitment to counsellor education and the continued development of counselling practice, together with a thoughtful, reflexive and relational approach to working with students and diverse communities.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A completed doctorate, relevant counselling qualifications and professional counselling experience.
• Membership of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors or a comparable professional counselling organisation.
• Experience teaching and/or supervising at postgraduate level, with the ability to contribute to high-quality curriculum delivery and development.
• An active or developing research profile, with demonstrated potential for continued research productivity.
• Strong knowledge of integrative counselling practice and professional supervision, alongside an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for professional practice.
