Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.

Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way. No two days will be the same! 

As a Lifeguard, you are responsible for:

  • Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers
  • Educating and enforcing pool rules
  • Responding to any First Aid emergencies
  • Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean

We are looking for permanent part-time lifeugards team members, working Sunday and Friday (Permanent 16-hour), or Sunday, Monday and Friday (Permanent 24-hour).

Please note that the shift is subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the centre, so flexibility is essential.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are looking for strong swimmers of all ages, who are dedicated to helping others and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. As a casual team member, you’ll need to stay alert, work well in a team, and provide excellent customer service.

You wil be an enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.  

You will also need to have a current First Aid Certificate and Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).

The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to be able to pass this swim test:

  • Swim 200m in under 6 minutes
  • Swim 25m sidestroke
  • Swim 50m breaststroke
  • Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool
  • Tread water for 5 minutes
