Help us deliver like never before

As our Mail and Parcel Sorting Officer, you’ll be working at the Mackay Mail Centre where you’ll be responsible for manually sorting mail and parcels in preparation for delivery. You’ll play a key role in supporting our delivery network, who provide a vital service to our community every single day. You’ll be working together with a friendly team of like-minded people, and your community relies on you, and it doesn’t get better than that! 


You’ll be

  • Working efficiently individually or in a team to manually sort mail and parcels as they arrive and exit the facility
  • Lifting and handling heavy parcels and bags of mail regularly
  • Working around complex machinery and equipment (training provided)
  • Required to use manual pallet jacks and stackers to receive and despatch large volume of mail (training provided)
  • On your feet for the full shift doing very physical work and often repetitive tasks
  • Provided initial and ongoing training with senior team members who are committed to engage and take part in your professional development


About you

  • You are ok to work a fixed term contract until September 2026
  • You are flexible with working additional hours if required 
  • You have a great memory, great hand/eye coordination, and excellent attention to detail
  • You enjoy physical work indoors and can lift up to 16kgs of Mail and Parcels regularly
  • You are ok to handle parcels and packages that may contain food products and alcohol   
  • Experience operating manual pallet jacks or stackers is advantageous but not mandatory

Training and Support

At Australia Post, our training and induction programs offer support to ensure we set you up for success. You will attend an induction in your first week with our Learning and Development Team followed by a site-specific induction at your respective facility and additional online learning modules. As a new employee, you will receive one-on-one coaching, followed by regular check-ins with your Manager and Trainer to track progress, provide feedback, and discuss any support needed. We assess development at the end of each month during your probationary period, with adjustments or additional training as required. The program includes site-specific inductions and hands-on training, building employees up to full delivery capacity within six weeks. Our approach is flexible, ensuring long-term success and continuous growth.
