Proud winners of NZ's Best Ski Resort 10 years in a row, Mt Hutt Ski Area is now seeking Custodians (Live In) to join us for our upcoming 2026 winter season.
The purpose of the role is to ensure that our base lodge facilities are cleaned and maintained to the highest possible standards. This is a seasonal fixed term position, commencing early June to mid October. There is some manual labour and heavy lifting involved but if you can take it all in your stride and do so with a smile you may be the very person we are after!
About the Role
• cleaning of staff and public toilets and surrounding areas. Ensure they are stocked with necessary supplies (soap and toilet paper)
• ensure that all food outlets are clean and presentable; empty rubbish bins, vacuum, tidy regularly
• clearing outdoor public areas and the main building entry points after new snow and apply salt and grit to minimise slip hazards
• deploy signage and barriers to minimise slip/trip hazards and guest/staff exposure to falling snow or snow clearing equipment
• ensure that all public areas are cleaned and presentable to provide an excellent service to our guests.
• rubbish emptied regularly; deck and outside areas clean, tidy and safe; inside areas clean and vacuumed
• general maintenance duties such as replacing light bulbs, stocking firewood, and keeping an eye on all public areas to ensure they are safe and well presented
• assist other departments during busy periods, mainly Food & Beverage by bussing the Cafe and deck, ensuring the outside bins are changed more frequently, ensure all outdoor areas are clean and tidy
• this is a live in position, so you will be living on the ski area
About You
• comfortable working in a role where your primary duty is to clean and maintain hygiene standards
• we are seeking self-motivated applicants with a proven commitment to working under pressure in a team environment and can provide 'service with a smile'
• happy to assist in other departments and take on additional duties as required
• applicants must be comfortable working in an alpine environment in a variety of weather conditions;
• an understanding that employment is subject to the vagaries of the weather and the hours of work cannot be guaranteed
