Full-time
On-site
Abingdon, ENG

Evotec is expanding its on-site engineering and facilities team and is looking for a dedicated Maintenance Technician to join the Abingdon site, working at Milton Park. This full-time, permanent role sits in a supportive, multi-skilled group focused on keeping Production, Utilities, Laboratory and Office assets in good shape. You’ll report to the Maintenance Supervisor and work onsite at the Milton Park campus.

The company is a recognised name in the discovery and development of novel small molecule drugs, built on substantial expertise and an industrialised platform that helps move new compounds toward the clinic. This is a hands-on position that suits someone who enjoys solving problems, maintaining complex systems, and working as part of a team that keeps critical facilities up and running.

Role type: permanent. Hours are 40 per week. The salary is described as competitive, with a strong benefits package. Location is Milton Park, Abingdon, and the role is onsite.

Keeping the plant humming at Milton Park

In this role you’ll carry out planned preventive maintenance so that the building, plant and equipment continue to support daily operations. You’ll look after site services such as AHUs, extract fans and motors, electrical LV systems, lighting and the water systems that feed process and domestic needs, including pumps, fume cupboards in the lab, pipework, calorifiers, boilers, pressurisation units and vacuum systems. When faults arise you’ll investigate, troubleshoot and identify root causes to minimise downtime.

You’ll work with, manage and support external contractors for routines like gas boilers, compressed air, UPS, LV switchgear, PAT testing, BMS, fire alarms, generators, laboratory gas services, general building fabric and facility repairs, air conditioning/chillers, LEV and pressurised equipment. As a team member, you’ll also help with weekly fire alarm testing and daily checks to verify correct operation of engineering plant. You’ll process maintenance requests, either in-house or via external specialists, and occasionally participate in weekend or out-of-hours work. The on-call rota runs about one week per month. In addition, you’ll perform other tasks as directed by Engineering Management to support the company’s needs.

Must-have qualifications

Here’s what you’ll need to bring to the table to be considered for the role.

  • Post-apprenticeship mechanical experience in a facilities, manufacturing, chemical, utility or laboratory environment, or an equivalent NVQ Level 2/3 background.
  • Experience gained in a pharmaceutical GMP or life-science laboratory setting is strongly preferred as part of your background.
  • Health and safety training grounded in practical work experience.
  • Comfortable working with building services and basic computing, with the ability to learn new techniques and procedures as needed.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, reliable and able to grow into increased responsibility, potentially including supervisory tasks.

Nice-to-have skills

These are helpful extras that would make you a stronger fit, but aren’t required in all cases.

  • Experience operating Building Management Systems, knowledge of energy initiatives, or familiarity with ATEX environments.
  • A proactive spirit with a “go the extra mile” attitude and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach, even when under pressure.

Pay, benefits and practical details

The role offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. After a 3-month probation, you’ll be eligible for a pension with Evotec contributing 6% for the employee and employer, with matching up to 7.5%. You’ll receive 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, plus additional days based on length of service up to a maximum of 30 days. Private health insurance with BUPA is provided for you and your partner or family under the company scheme, with private dental cover available after 3 months of service. There is life assurance at four times your annual base salary, wellbeing support 24/7 with counselling services, and permanent health insurance at 75% of base salary after the qualifying period. You may also be eligible to participate in the Company Bonus Scheme, which is discretionary, and there are attractive opportunities for career progression, training and professional development. Other perks include a cycle to work scheme, a refer-a-friend scheme, team and annual events, recognition awards, and more.

Tips for applicants

Highlight your post-apprenticeship or NVQ-level facilities experience right at the top of your resume, with a clear example of hands-on maintenance in a manufacturing, utility or lab setting.

When you describe your must-have skills, provide concrete evidence of planned preventive maintenance you’ve completed, especially on building services, labs or plant equipment, and any hands-on work with AHUs, boilers, pumps or lab gas systems.

Be ready to talk about times you’ve coordinated external contractors, managed on-site safety during such work, and handled maintenance requests through to completion, including any weekend or on-call tasks.

Ask about how the company supports ongoing training and progression, and what pathways exist to broaden your responsibilities or move into supervisory roles within the maintenance team.
