Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in hardware test development, manufacturing test engineering, or hardware validation within a manufacturing or systems development environment.
  • 3 years of experience developing automated test scripts, test executives, and diagnostic tools using Python in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Experience designing, building, or deploying manufacturing test solutions (Functional Test (FVT), System-level Test, Burn-in, or Stress Test) for compute, server, rack, or electro-mechanical hardware.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience developing automated manufacturing test hardware, custom electronics, fixturing, instrumentation, and test scripts using Python or other scripting languages.
  • Experience managing the end-to-end NPI test lifecycle, from authoring initial product-specific test plans and driving test coverage metrics to qualifying test stations for mass production handoff.
  • Experience in hardware troubleshooting, analyzing production failure data, and collaborating with partners or suppliers to drive quality improvements.
  • Deep understanding of server/compute architecture, high-density server motherboards, PCIe interfaces, power delivery, firmware/BIOS interaction, and custom silicon integration.

As a Manufacturing Test Development Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the manufacturing test processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you are right there alongside ensuring manufacturing test processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with commodity managers and design engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing test development for new and existing hardware designs. Write test plans and drive test coverage based on product requirements.
  • Develop automated test scripts for functional tests, software installation and burn-in using Python.
  • Design, build and deploy test platforms for Google's global manufacturing partners.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and root cause manufacturing yield issues and field escapes. Drive issues to closure with preventive measures.
  • Define the manufacturing test strategy for new products and work with our partners to jointly develop the required test solutions.
