Summary

We are seeking a qualified Medical Assistant I to join the Department of Neurology in our General Neurology group. This is a great entry level opportunity to learn new skills and be a part of a growing department. We are looking for someone who is reliable, a quick learner and can work independently. They must be able to handle large volumes of patient messages and calls.

 

This position will support the Neurology department. This will be 50/50 patient facing and administrative support to our providers.

 

We are looking for someone who is used to a fast paced environment and a team player. The ideal candidate will be able to handle a large patient volume. 

Job Duties

  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments. (10%)
  • Conduct patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups. (10%)
  • Manages in-basket messages. (20%)
  • Manages and coordinates incoming patient referrals. (as needed)
  • Enters orders for patient tests and obtains proper paperwork. (10%)
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. (10%)
  • Take inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed. (As needed)
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs. (20%)
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit. (20%)
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician. (as needed)
  • Administer medication under direction / order of a supervising Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • No experience required.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA,,AAH AAMP, or NPS).  New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Other

Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood &/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.
