Kinross Gold seeks a Mine General Supervisor to lead Round Mountain onsite in Nevada, MO. Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations. 

The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Mine Superintendent, the General Supervisor is responsible for directing the Mine Senior Supervisors in their execution of the mine plan with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency. The incumbent may also be responsible to relieve the Mine Superintendent in their absence.

Essential Functions

1.  Ensure the safety of all personnel.
2.  Discuss daily priorities and production goals with the Mine Superintendent & Mine Supervisors to implement and maintain the current mining plan including mining, drill and blast, and projects.
3.  Work with the Mine Superintendent and Technical Services to establish and execute mine plans. 
4.  Establish and maintain cost effective and productive mining methods with continuous improvement focus.
5.  Responsible for management of supervisors including communicate daily production requirements and availability of employees and equipment. 
6.  Monitor equipment availability, production priorities based on the availability, and triage with Maintenance to set priorities for repairs and production.
7.  Assist in the recruitment of new personnel and work closely with Human Resources to maintain adequate crew levels. 
8.  Ensure training, opportunities, feedback, and discipline are provided to all personnel in a fair and consistent manner. 
9.  Conduct safety meetings and participate in daily-lineouts.
10.  Conduct accident or incident investigations.
11.  Monitor costs against the budget to ensure the mine operations group is operating within budget efficiently.
12.  Constantly monitor crew activities to ensure efficient, safe operations and make recommendations for revised procedures when problems are encountered.
13.  Ensure consistency in the application of company policies and progressions.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

1.  Must have a strong understanding of mining techniques, equipment, materials, and procedures.
2.  Knowledge of mine planning function with the ability to adapt to daily changes in the mine plan
3.  Must be able to lead employees toward achieving individual, team, and company goals.
4.  Ten years of open pit mining experience (Preferred)
5.  Five years hands-on heavy equipment experience (Preferred) 
6.  Three years Senior Supervisor experience in a large open pit mining environment required.
7.  Additional supervisory experience is a plus.

8.  Strong technical knowledge of all pit equipment.
9.  Ability to communicate with all levels of employees.
10.  Able to communicate effectively with other departments to meet mine goals.
11.  Knowledge of drilling and blasting activities including blasting safety /and or a strong desire to cross train required.
12. Competent with PCs and Microsoft Office software.
13.  Requires valid driver’s license.
