INPEX is hiring for an Operations Technician Telecoms to join its offshore team aboard the CPF Explorer on a two-year maximum-term contract. The role is based onsite in Australia, delivering specialist telecommunications support to a complex offshore operation that includes radio, satellite, CCTV and network infrastructure. It’s a role well suited to someone who brings solid hands-on telecoms experience, a safety-first mindset and the ability to work closely with contractors and multidisciplinary teams in a high-stakes environment.

INPEX is a growing energy company with interests in Ichthys LNG, Prelude FLNG, Darwin LNG, Van Gogh and Ravensworth, and a focus on carbon capture and storage to help provide cleaner upstream energy. The company values an inclusive culture and collaboration across global teams, offering opportunities for skilled professionals who want to contribute to secure, affordable energy while advancing their careers in a multinational setting.

The Operations Technician Telecoms role is a frontline, offshore position on the CPF Explorer, designed to keep critical telecommunications assets performing to support safe and efficient offshore operations. It would suit someone who is comfortable in a remote environment, who communicates clearly and who takes pride in delivering reliable telecoms services under demanding conditions.

What The Telecoms Operations Technician Will Do Offshore

Day to day, the role centers on maintaining telecommunications and related network systems, including planned, corrective and integrity-critical tasks, ensuring faults are diagnosed, understood and resolved promptly. The person in this position acts as the offshore focal point for telecom faults, breakdowns and service requests, coordinating a calm, systematic approach to issues that arise in the middle of the ocean.

They’ll keep a wide range of systems operating, from VHF Marine and VHF Aeronautical to TETRA, VSAT, microwave radio, CCTV, public address and general alarm systems, as well as electronic mustering, radar and local area network infrastructure. The role also covers supporting operational reliability through regular inspection, testing, maintenance and continuous improvement activities, and it includes supervising telecommunications contractors and specialist service providers when they are working offshore.

Part of the remit is to contribute to cyber security efforts and manage approved third-party remote access to telecommunications systems, ensuring that security and access controls align with offshore procedures. Building strong working relationships with offshore operations, maintenance personnel, engineers, planners and contractors is a key part of delivering safe, efficient outcomes day after day.

Who Will Excel In This Telecoms Role

  • Hold a Telecommunications Trade Qualification, or recognised equivalent.
  • Hold a Certificate III in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics) or similar qualification.
  • Hold a Restricted Electrical Licence appropriate to the work performed.
  • Hold current competencies for Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas relevant to the role.
  • Hold current offshore survival certification such as BOSIET (or equivalent) and a current Maritime Security Card (MSIC).
  • Demonstrate strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capability across telecommunications, electronics and network systems.
  • Have experience interpreting technical drawings, schematics, network diagrams and vendor documentation.
  • Have knowledge of maintenance systems, permit-to-work processes and risk management practices.
  • Be able to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset and a commitment to safety excellence.

Nice-to-haves: none stated.

This role is intended for applicants residing in or willing to relocate to Australia and able to meet offshore travel requirements.

Working Conditions, Location And Benefits

The position is based on the CPF Explorer offshore, with Australia as the location and 40% of the year spent on a 3/4/3/5 roster arrangement. The contract is a maximum-term, two-year arrangement. The company offers a competitive remuneration package with performance-based incentives, superannuation above the standard guarantee, salary packaging options including novated leasing, and access to discounts from more than 350 retailers.

Additional benefits include 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave, structured career development pathways, dedicated study leave and access to learning opportunities, and wellbeing initiatives such as gym membership options. Applicants should be aware that travel offshore is a requirement for this role, and the company notes that it reserves the right to close applications early if a suitable pool of candidates is identified. Acknowledgement of the offshore nature of the work and the commitment to safety will be important to success in this role. Closing date for applications is 23.10.2026.

Practical Guidance For Applicants

Tip 1, Lead your resume with the must-have credentials: clearly state your Telecommunications Trade Qualification and your Certificate III in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics), then mention the Restricted Electrical Licence and offshore survival certification. Place these at the top so the panel sees them first.

Tip 2, Prove the must-have skills with concrete examples: include scenarios where you diagnosed and resolved faults across telecoms, electronics and networks, and show your ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and vendor docs. Tie these to offshore or hazardous-area contexts where possible.

Tip 3, Get ready for offshore-specific interview topics: be prepared to discuss your approach to safety, permit-to-work processes and how you manage remote access or cyber security tasks, plus your experience coordinating contractors in remote environments. Use STAR stories to illustrate your points.

Tip 4, Ask a focused question that shows you’ve done your homework: consider asking how the team balances operational reliability with cyber security controls for telecom systems on the CPF Explorer, or how the roster affects planning and maintenance windows across the 3/4/3/5 cycle.
