SGS Timaru is seeking responsible casual Plant and Terminal Operators to support bunker operations and the discharge of fuel tankers at the Port and Oil Industry Terminal. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role with manual handling up to 25 kgs and variable hours, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays, with no guaranteed hours. Local applicants with solid time management, the ability to stay calm in a busy environment, and a proven safety record will stand out. A current NZ Driver’s License is required, forklift license is advantageous, and you must pass drug screening and MOJ checks and have the right to work in NZ. Job Description

Our Timaru team are on the lookout for responsible and reliable people with a positive work ethic to join our friendly team on a casual basis.  Please note that this is a casual role, with no guaranteed hours.

What you will be doing:

  • Assisting with bunker operations for vessels when they are at the Port
  • Discharging of fuel tankers into Oil Industry Terminal tanks
  • Other duties may be offered should you have the right skills and positive approach to work
  • Involves manual handling of up to 25kgs and working outside in all weather conditions
  • Vessels can arrive at any time of the day or night, weekdays or weekend, so flexibility is key for this role

Qualifications

Profile:

  • Proven ability to manage your time and work in a busy environment
  • Due to working hours and the need to be available on short notice, ideally you will be based locally
  • Owing to the nature of the work and scheduling requirements, you will need to be able to work, days, nights, weekends and public holidays in all weather conditions when required
  • Demonstrated skill in following operating procedures including strict health and safety requirements 
  • Knowledge of and previous experience working in the Oil, Gas and Chemical Industry highly advantageous

Qualifications:

  • Good verbal communication and able to maintain accurate written records
  • Commuter literate
  • Must hold a current and unrestricted New Zealand Driver’s License
  • Forklift License (an advantageous)
  • Pass a drug screening and MOJ process
  • Must have the right to work in New Zealand
