Gridsight is seeking a Power Engineer to blend technical consulting with solution delivery, driving pre‑sales, tender responses and trusted advisory for DNSPs adopting the AI‑driven grid platform. You’ll lead advanced power engineering work, support onboarding, run demos/PoCs, and help shape the Australian market roadmap, reporting to the GM ANZ. Ideally 5‑10 years in power systems, distribution planning or DER, with hands on tools (PowerFactory, PSS/E, CYME) and cloud SaaS (AWS/Azure). To apply, tailor your CV to show customer outcomes, cross‑functional impact, and examples of turning operational problems into actionable roadmaps, plus evidence of effective communication with engineers and executives. Include a short cover note weaving your DNSP experience with Gridsight’s mission and emphasize ownership, curiosity, and velocity.
Electricity grids are undergoing the most significant transformation in a century. The shift to renewables, the proliferation of rooftop solar, batteries and EVs, and the increasing complexity of distribution networks are forcing utilities to operate their grids in fundamentally new ways. Gridsight's software platform uses data, ML and AI to help grid operators modernise their operations and unlock transformational new capabilities. We deliver visibility into the grid edge, faster renewable connections, and real-time orchestration of distributed energy. The opportunity is enormous ($1B+ ARR).
We're embedded with over 50% of Australia's distribution networks, more than 30% in New Zealand, and have 1 of the top 5 utilities in the US as our lighthouse. Airtree led our Series A, we grew ARR 3.4x in the past 6 months, and we're on the path to build the first truly generational utility software company.
We hold an exceptionally high talent bar, but if you’re talented, hungry and ambitious, come join us on our mission.
The Role
As a Power Engineer at Gridsight, you will play a hybrid role blending technical consulting and solution delivery. By combining deep power engineering expertise with strong commercial acumen, you will drive pre-sales engagement, support tender responses, and act as a trusted advisor to SMEs and senior leaders of distribution network service providers (DNSPs) as they buy and adopt Gridsight’s AI-driven grid intelligence platform.
Your mission is to deeply understand the customer’s context, needs and ambitions - and shepherd our team to rapidly deliver exceptional impact that builds trust, confidence and earns us the right to continually deepen our utility partnerships.
What You’ll Do
Act as an influential leader and technical subject matter expert, reporting directly to the General Manager Gridsight ANZ as part of the regional leadership team alongside Sales and Customer.
Advanced Power Engineering Expertise
- Serve as an in-house subject matter expert on power distribution systems (distribution networks, LV/MV grid operation, grid modernisation)
- Provide technical leadership for customer teams transitioning to Gridsight-powered workflows, ensuring implementations are robust, compliant, and designed for long-term scalability.
- Understand the digital and systems landscape of utilities, how their tech stack is evolving to enable DSO, enabling you to contextualise Gridsight’s role within their bigger picture.
- Represent Gridsight’s platform and product stack and the value our capabilities create, positioning Gridsight as a key enabler of the move into e.g. flexibility at scale, such as Dynamic Operating Envelopes.
Commercial and Technical-Led Sales
- Play a central role in commercial discovery, helping identify utilities that can build strong internal cases for adopting Gridsight.
- Develop and deliver compelling product demonstrations, technical workshops, and proof-of-concept engagements that clearly communicate the operational and commercial value of the Gridsight platform.
- Support the commercial team in preparing bids, tenders, RFIs/RFPs, innovation funding applications, and partner proposals, ensuring high-quality technical contributions.
- Act as the technical authority in customer calls and workshops, influencing decision-makers and helping progress opportunities through the sales pipeline.
Implementation & Technical Onboarding
- Lead the end-to-end technical onboarding process for new utility customers, ensuring seamless deployment and configuration of Gridsight’s platform.
- Work closely with customers to understand their network characteristics, operational requirements, and compliance obligations, tailoring onboarding and workflow configurations accordingly.
Solution and Roadmap Design
- Act as a customer-facing extension of Product as a ‘forward deployed engineer’, accelerating our product velocity by discovering, designing, prototyping and testing MVP solutions that meet evolving customer needs.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to feed in Australian market requirements, influencing the roadmap and advocating for features that improve commercial competitiveness and deliver meaningful customer value.
- Advise customers on best practices for data management, engineering analytics, digital workflows, and the optimal use of AI-driven insights.
- Identify opportunities for additional value-added services, expanded deployments, and product enhancements based on customer feedback and emerging regulatory/market trends.
Thought Leadership & Market Engagement
- Represent Gridsight at Australian industry groups, conferences, webinars, and technical forums, contributing to conversations around flexibility markets, visibility, flexibility and orchestration, connections assessments and automation, and AI in power systems.
- Co-develop and present case studies, white papers, and technical insights that position Gridsight as a leader in grid digitalisation and advanced analytics.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders (from engineering managers to regulatory/strategy leaders) influencing grid modernisation strategies and articulating the commercial and operational benefits of Gridsight’s solutions.
Who You Are
- You've worked inside a network or close enough to one that you have lived experience - and know what matters to the humans within them. You've seen this journey from the customer’s perspective - data-led grid visibility, LV/MV operation, planning, DER integration, flexibility and connections - and you can hold your own in a room with a network planner who's been doing it for twenty years.
- You can sell without being a salesperson. You're the person whose technical clarity and intellectual honesty unlocks a deal, because you seek to understand and build trust, not pitch.
- You own outcomes, not recommendations. Plenty of people can write a report. You're energised by doing the work that brings the outcome to life.
- You translate in both directions. You turn a customer's operational problem into a roadmap input engineering can build against, and a platform capability into something a network planner will use.
- Low ego, high ownership, relentless curiosity, bias for impact. You embody the traits we hire for in every role.
-
Genuinely drawn to the mission. You want the networks you work with to be the reason the energy transition lands faster.
