SEHA invites a Diploma or Associate Degree in Midwifery for a fulltime onsite Practical Midwife role at Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi. Under the supervision of Registered Midwives you will support antenatal, postnatal and outpatient care, follow the Nursing Scope of Practice and the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct, and maintain a patient centered approach with solid documentation and EMR use. A minimum of 1 year post graduate clinical experience in maternity or a related setting is required; candidates will be considered only for antenatal, postnatal and outpatient settings and the role is not independent practice. Understands, supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of the Organization. Provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. Adheres to and promotes the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. The Practical Midwife is not licensed for independent practice and remains responsible and accountable for his/her own actions.
 

  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the organisations policy and procedures and the unit scope of service.
  • To maintain a high standard of nursing and midwifery care for patients, working within evidence-based guidelines and unit specific competencies.
  • Under the supervision of the Registered Midwife, assess and implement nursing care for patients ensuring a patient centred approach to care.
  • Under the direction of the Registered Midwife, assist in the activities of daily living for patients in accordance with the patient care plan e.g. distribution of patient meals and assisting patients with hygiene needs.
  • Demonstrates service excellence and acts as a patient advocate to support the patients dignity and rights at all times.
  • Understands the basic indications for medications, recognises side effects and reports to the Registered Midwife appropriately.
  • Ensures the registered midwife is informed of observations and care provided for patients and document appropriately.
  • Reports any significant changes in the patient’s condition to a Registered midwife immediately.
  • Responds to all levels of emergencies according to the organisations policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate verbal and written communication and documentation relating to individual patient care as delegated by the midwife in charge.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the management of effective and efficient patient centred care in a professional manner.
  • Promotes and supports a collaborative practice model.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly with patients, carers and all healthcare professionals.
  • Contributes effectively to the support of new staff, nursing students and other staff.
  • Responsible for documentation and participate in the use of information technology and relevant electronic medical records.
  • Adhere to protocols on the safe and appropriate use of information technology.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of patient, family, and  organisazation  information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
  • Understands the process of complaint management,takes action to resolve where possible and reports as per organisational policy.
  • Assist registered midwives and clerical staff in administrative duties as required
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure unit environment., identify, report and document any risks and/or incidents appropriately.
  • Maintain high standards of infection control at all times by adhering to infection control policies with an aim of reducing of healthcare associated infections
  • Participate, contribute and implement quality assurance standards as per local guidelines
  • Support the senior management team in promoting a risk management culture within the working environment.
  • Complies with International and HAAD patient safety goals.
  • Assess patient and family education needs, plan for and provide and evaluate outcome.
  • Assist to provide a suitable environment that supports educational needs.
  • Ensures patient and family are provided with comprehensive information and resources to meet their health care needs.
  • Engages in health promotion activities in the healthcare organization and community.
  • Assist with the orientation of new staff and promotes a learning environment.
  • Completes Mandatory competencies and unit specific competencies.
  • In conjunction with but not limited to the Manager / Registered Midwife / CRN, identifies own professional learning needs and develops an annual learning plan.
  • Participates in Nursing and or other disciplines research that contributes to continual improvement in standards of care.
  • Develops and maintains own Professional Portfolio.
  • Performs other duties as required within scope of practice.
  • The Practical Midwife will also be expected to contribute to the wider corporate and organisational development needs of the   organisation as appropriate within scope of practice.
  • The Practical Midwife will be expected to ensure compliance with the requirement of the Health and Safety regulations of the organisation.
  • Upholds the organisation customer service standards at all time
     

Qualification : Diploma or Associate Degree in Midwifery

Required: NLT 1 year clinical experience after graduation in maternity hospital or appropriate setting
