Lab3 is seeking a Principal Consultant in New Zealand with deep Azure Data Engineering and data governance expertise to join its Data, AI & IoT practice. The role is a technology leadership position responsible for high level design and delivery across Azure data offerings, translating business needs into scalable, secure data solutions and guiding governance assessments. You’ll architect end-to-end data platforms using Data Factory, Data Warehousing, Synapse, Databricks and related Microsoft technologies, blending data engineering, consulting and deployment skills. Applicants should show substantial Azure data engineering, governance, data maturity, BI and AI experience, plus the ability to lead client engagements and clearly communicate insights and cost estimates. NZ citizens or permanent residents eligible for government security clearance preferred; Wellington-based is ideal but NZ-wide candidates are welcome with remote or hybrid options. Looking for a Principal Consultant in New Zealand with deep experience in Azure Data Engineering & data governance to be part of our professional services team in the Data, AI & IoT practice.
The role:
• Act as a technology leader for client engagement. Drive high level design and delivery experience across the Azure Data technology offerings.
• Consult with customers to understand business needs and translate those into technical outcomes relating to effective data solutions. Identify, interpret, and communicate meaningful insights, conclusions, cost estimations, presentations and report to clients.
• Design and advise on state-of-the-art technical solutions on Azure that address customer's requirements for scalability, reliability, security, and performance. Lead project pipelines and focus on high level solution design and implementation of Data platforms.
• Be involved in data governance contributing to assessments and improvements
• Implement and deliver specialist solutions across Data Analytics and Reporting, Big Data, Business Intelligence, ML & IoT functions.
• Develop end-to-end data analytics and BI solutions, including Data Factory, Data Warehousing, Data Modelling, and Reporting using Microsoft technologies in Cloud environments (Azure).
• Mix of high-level skills in data engineering, consulting, architecture, and deployment
The ideal candidate:
• Significant consulting, architecture & delivery experience in Azure Data Engineering, Data governance, data assessment, data maturity models, reporting and ideally AI
• Ability to understand business requirements and design effective solutions using deep Azure data engineering skills.
• Expertise in the Azure Data Platform - Microsoft frameworks (Cloud-based analytics), Data Catalog, Data Lineage, ML
• Extensive experience in Azure Data, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Warehousing, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Big Data, Data Lakes and App Insights
• Extensive experience in Conventional Microsoft BI technologies such as SSIS | SSRS | SSAS
• Experience in data architecture, modelling and governance
• Experience in the creation, deployment, support, and management of complex AI, IoT, Open Source ML and Data solution
• Azure IoT – advantageous
• Azure DevOps & Automation - comfortable working in a CI/CD environment
• New Zealand citizens or permanent residents currently in the country who have or are eligible for government security clearance only.
• Ideally based in Wellington but suitable candidates anywhere in NZ will be considered for the role.
