Macpac is hiring a Product Equipment Designer for a 12-month parental leave cover in New Zealand to design and deliver fit-for-purpose, commercially viable and environmentally conscious gear from concept through production. You will work with Product Development, Graphics, Marketing, Retail and global suppliers to balance creativity with technical excellence and sustainability, shaping ranges that meet real customer needs. Key filters: 5+ years in product or equipment design, a tertiary qualification in Industrial Design, the ability to articulate design concepts, and a track record of on time and on budget delivery, plus strong supplier and cross-functional collaboration. About the Role…You’ll be responsible for designing, planning and delivering Macpac’s equipment ranges — creating fit-for-purpose, commercially viable and environmentally conscious products that meet real customer needs. 

Working closely with Product Development, Graphics, Marketing, Retail and our global supplier network, you’ll take products from concept through to production, balancing creativity with technical excellence and commercial outcomes. 

What You’ll Be Doing… 

• Stay ahead of trends and customer needs - Research global markets, analyse data, and translate feedback into actionable insights
• Product Innovator – Bring ideas to life through functional, sustainable design by creating concepts, prototypes and Tech Packs, while communicating fabrics and trims to the Development Team and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver designated ranges.
• Project Maestro - Ensure smooth delivery from concept to production, managing timelines, coordinating teams, and addressing risks proactively
• Colour Curator - Define cohesive, seasonal colour stories, developing palettes, leading lab dips, and maintaining consistency across ranges
• Culture Champion - Live and promote Macpac’s values every day, building strong relationships and act with integrity, sustainability, and customer focus 

About You…You’re a curious, confident designer who thrives in collaborative environments and loves solving problems through thoughtful design. You’ll bring: 

• Seasoned Designer: 5+ years’ experience in product or equipment design
• Qualified Innovator: Tertiary qualification in Industrial Design or equivalent experience
• Vision Communicator: Strong ability to articulate design concepts and creative vision
• Budget & Deadline Champion: Proven experience delivering on time and within budget
• Collaborative Creator: A constructive, team-focused working style
• Skilled Negotiator: Confident managing suppliers and stakeholder relationships
• Sustainability Advocate: Passion for responsible and environmentally conscious design
