Lockheed Martin Australia is looking for a Program Management Director to lead the Global Training Services mission within the Rotary and Mission Systems business’s Training Logistics and Simulation line. The role sits in the Australian arm of a global defence and security powerhouse and reports to the Vice President of Air and Commercial Solutions. This is an onsite position, based in Barton, ACT, with the possibility of being located elsewhere within Lockheed Martin Australia locations as travel demands require. The company emphasises a flexible approach to work and values candidates who can manage complex international engagements and large-scale programs.

The work spans across multiple international customers and locations, with a strong focus on safety, quality, strong customer relations, and effective people and talent management. The role also carries responsibility for program performance and all related financial resources and results. Although Canberra is the preferred base, the scale of travel involved means the right person could be based in other Lockheed Martin Australia hubs where opportunities exist.

Ideal candidates will bring a track record of leading multi-national, distributed and virtual teams and a clear ability to build durable relationships with both customers and suppliers. This is a senior leadership slot for someone who wants to shape growth in the training and sustainment arena for aerospace and defence, while steering program execution across diverse international contexts.

Steering a global program portfolio

You’ll oversee a portfolio of large, complex programs spanning development, production and ongoing sustainment, with activity across domestic and international fronts. The role demands a strategic mindset and hands-on leadership to align safety, quality, customer satisfaction and financial performance across multiple sites and partners. You’ll cultivate strong partnerships with customers and suppliers, and you’ll guide teams that are diverse in location, culture and function. Expect to travel as needed to keep programs on track and to drive growth across the training services mission area.

Experience coordinating distributed and virtual teams, plus a track record of crafting and delivering growth strategies, is important. Finally, you should be comfortable using AI prompting to support program management activities as part of day-to-day practice.

Tips from a recruiter who knows this role

Lead your resume with your US Foreign Military Sales and Australian Government Contracting experience, and make clear the kinds of programs you’ve managed and the outcomes you helped achieve. Place these details high in your summary so the panel sees you’ve touched the key contracting bases early.

Show how you prove the must-have skills with concrete stories. Describe times when you led multi-national or virtual teams, built durable customer and supplier relationships, and guided growth initiatives. Where possible, reference the ways you used AI prompting to support planning or decision-making in those programs.
