Affinity Water is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of major civil engineering capital projects that support sustainable, high-quality water services for customers and communities. Working within the Asset Strategy and Capital Delivery team, you’ll guide projects from concept through to completion, helping to boost asset performance, strengthen network resilience, and deliver environmental and customer benefits.

The role is based in Hatfield, England, and is an onsite, full-time position. It’s a good fit for someone who enjoys shaping complex capital schemes, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and building strong relationships with stakeholders to keep projects on track and aligned with safety and governance standards.

In this capacity, you’ll bring your experience in civil engineering capital projects to life, ensuring projects move smoothly from design through commissioning and handover while keeping a clear view of scope, schedule and budget.

Day-to-day momentum in capital delivery

You’ll oversee capital projects typically valued between £1m and £20m, guiding them through design, construction, commissioning and handover. Expect to keep tight control of scope, timelines, cost, risk and quality, while coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, consultants and suppliers. You’ll also manage NEC4 contracts and support procurement activities, all while building strong, trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the project delivers the intended environmental and customer benefits and meets safety and governance requirements.

What you’ll need to bring to the project team

  • A degree, professional qualification, or equivalent hands-on experience in project management, civil engineering, construction or a related discipline.

  • A proven track record of delivering civil engineering capital projects.

  • Experience administering NEC4 contracts.

  • Strong capabilities in project controls, financial management and stakeholder engagement.

  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations.

  • Hold a full UK driving licence.

Nice-to-have experience

  • Experience delivering projects within the utilities sector.

  • An APM PMQ or an equivalent project management qualification.

Pay, benefits and practical details

Salary is competitive and dependant on your skills and experience.

You’ll have learning and development opportunities, including mentoring and a range of formal courses and open learning resources. You’ll also be eligible for the company annual bonus scheme.

Annual leave starts at 26–30 days and rises with length of service, with the option to purchase up to five extra days. There’s a dedicated Celebration Day each year for religious festivals or other important occasions.

The benefits package includes a generous double-match pension scheme with company contributions capped at 12%, plus a broad set of family benefits such as enhanced maternity, adoption, paternity, shared parental leave, fertility support leave and up to four affinity days a year to volunteer in the community or 10 half-days of paid Carers Leave. There’s a menopause policy and a Reasonable Adjustment policy to help everyone perform at their best, plus access to a Wellbeing Centre and discounts via the Tap4Perks scheme for retail, dental and medical insurance through salary sacrifice. You’ll also receive Life Assurance and the opportunity to participate in the company’s wellness and community initiatives.
