At Colas Ltd, we are looking for a Quality and Compliance Officer to join our Cheshire West and Chester team on a 12 months fixed-term basis to provide maternity cover based at our Guilden Sutton depot, CH3 7EX. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your experience within a leading infrastructure business, working closely with operational teams and senior stakeholders to support quality, compliance and business improvement initiatives. As our Quality and Compliance Officer, you will maintain and continually improving our Quality, Compliance and Integrated Management Systems. You'll help ensure our business processes remain compliant with company, customer and industry standards while supporting continuous improvement, managing documentation, analysing performance data and contributing to the successful delivery of our contractual commitments.
In this role, you'll support the delivery of our Quality Plan by working closely with colleagues across the business to review, develop and improve processes and procedures. You'll assist with maintaining our Integrated Management System, supporting digital transformation projects and ensuring business documentation remains accurate, current and compliant. You'll play an important part in coordinating both internal and external audits, including BSI and National Highways Sector Scheme audits, monitoring audit actions through to completion and supporting the investigation and close-out of corrective actions, near misses and continuous improvement opportunities. Working with teams across the contract, you'll help maintain compliance records, manage the risk register, support legal compliance activities and gather evidence for investigations and third-party requests. You'll also collect and analyse performance data, contribute to monthly KPI reporting and support quality, compliance and LEAN improvement reviews. The role offers the opportunity to help embed LEAN principles throughout the business, produce and maintain process maps, carry out observational and documentation audits on operational sites and provide support to the wider team when required, including deputising for the Business Performance & Improvement Manager and assisting with customer communications during construction works.
It is essential that the ideal candidate has experience in quality, compliance, business improvement or a similar role, or someone who can demonstrate strong transferable skills and is keen to develop their career in this field. You'll be highly organised with excellent attention to detail, comfortable managing multiple priorities and confident working with colleagues at all levels of the business. You'll enjoy analysing information, identifying opportunities for improvement and taking ownership of your workload to meet deadlines.
Strong IT skills are essential, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with experience using Adobe Acrobat and Power BI. An understanding of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or similar technologies would be beneficial, as would experience using SharePoint or other business management systems. Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and ISO standards, particularly ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 44001, would be advantageous. Experience of LEAN methodologies, process mapping, construction or infrastructure environments and National Highways standards would also be welcomed, although full training will be provided for the right candidate. Most importantly, you'll be a proactive team player with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine passion for continuous improvement. A full UK driving licence would be advantageous due to occasional site visits.
