Target Housing, a Doncaster-based charity focused on stabilising accommodation for vulnerable people, is looking for a compassionate Recovery Support Worker to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis. The role is onsite in Doncaster (DN4 5HZ) with a Monday to Friday schedule and no weekend or bank holiday shifts. Target Housing has been helping people for over 30 years, delivering stable housing and support, and it operates as an Equal Opportunities employer with an Inclusion & Diversity champions group and disability confident status.

You’ll work with individuals living with mental health needs to help them maintain tenancies, build independence and pursue personal goals, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team that includes health professionals, local authorities and other agencies.

If you’re drawn to roles that mix direct support with real opportunities to make a difference, this is a job where you can see the impact of your effort in people’s everyday lives. The team values practical support, clear pathways to independence and a respectful, collaborative approach to care.

Day-to-day work in recovery support

In this role you’ll partner with a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centred support and recovery plans. You’ll help people sustain or access suitable accommodation, while guiding them toward greater independence and essential life skills, including budgeting and managing daily routines and appointments. You’ll also carry out risk assessments, keep accurate records, encourage wellbeing and healthy lifestyles, and work with external agencies to coordinate care. Supporting tenancy responsibilities and addressing conflicts will be part of the everyday duties.

The work is built around collaboration with health professionals, local authorities and other agencies, with an emphasis on personal progress and practical outcomes for the individuals you support.

The essentials to do the job

  • Practical experience delivering support in housing, care or mental health settings
  • Familiarity with risk assessment and shaping tailored support plans
  • Awareness of welfare benefits and the main pieces of relevant legislation
  • Ability to work well on your own and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and solid organisational abilities

Nice-to-haves

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care or an equivalent qualification is preferred

Pay, benefits and practical details

The role is full-time and onsite in Doncaster, running Monday to Friday with no weekends or bank holidays. Mileage is reimbursed, and there are Westfield Health & Lifestyle benefits, Blue Light Card eligibility, and a company pension scheme with a 4% employer contribution. Full-time staff receive 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 33 days with service. The role requires an enhanced DBS check, a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle, and two satisfactory employment references (one from your current or most recent employer). You’ll also need to show evidence of right to work in the UK, with sponsorship not available for this position. If you have any special access requirements or other support needs during the application process, please contact the employer so they can advise on how best to assist you.

Advice for applicants

Lead your resume with your most relevant frontline experience in support, housing or mental health, and open with a line that shows your success in tenancy support and helping people gain independence.

When you describe must-have skills, attach concrete examples: a time you conducted a risk assessment, developed a support plan, or coordinated with a health professional or local authority to help someone stay in their home.

Prepare for interviews by talking through how you’ve worked with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies, managed tenancy responsibilities, and handled conflicts with tenants or landlords. Have ready stories that show how you supported people to improve daily living and achieve personal goals.

Ask a thoughtful question about how the role collaborates with health professionals and local authorities, and inquire how success in tenancy sustainment is measured within the team.
