UGL Limited, part of the CIMIC Group, is looking for experienced scaffolders to join its Industrial & Resources team for an upcoming Stanwell Power Station project. The work is on site in Rockhampton, Queensland, with opportunities to work across additional locations including Brisbane – Bayside & Eastern Suburbs and Australia-NSW-Newcastle, Maitland & Hunter. This is a hands-on role that will suit scaffolders who enjoy field work, value a reputable employer and want to contribute to major industrial projects.

The assignment centers on a Stanwell outage, with work slated to begin on 4 November for an expected 3‑4 weeks, featuring 11‑hour shifts. Accommodation is provided and a meal allowance is paid. There’s also the chance to join UGL’s Queensland outage team as part of this opportunity.

UGL’s presence in the market is built on end-to-end engineering, construction and maintenance services across sectors like rail, oil and gas, power, renewables and resources. They partner with many blue-chip clients and government agencies and operate as a member of the CIMIC Group. Diversity matters to the company, and they encourage applications from people with a range of backgrounds and experiences.

As part of the recruitment process, expect standard screening checks, including a national criminal history check and a pre-employment medical assessment with drug and alcohol screening. If you’re confident you have the skills and knowledge for this role, you’ll want to apply now.

On-site life during the Stanwell outage

When you join the team, you’ll be part of a reputable company with a seasoned group of professionals who bring a mix of skills to the table. The work will take place on a major site at Stanwell Power Station, and you’ll be operating in a shutdown environment that’s highly regarded for its safety standards and structured workflows. Expect long, steady days in a hands-on role that keeps you close to the field, using your scaffolding trade to support critical plant maintenance and upgrade work.

Shifts run for about 11 hours, and the assignment is set for roughly three to four weeks. If you’re open to temporary outage work, this is a strong chance to gain exposure to a large-scale project and to join the Queensland outage team for future opportunities. The arrangement includes on-site accommodation and a meal allowance, helping you focus on the job while you’re away from home.

The essentials you’ll need

Experience in a shutdown environment is highly regarded and should sit high on your resume. You’ll need either an Intermediate or Advanced Scaffolding HRWL, and a White Card. Training for Confined Space must have been completed within the last three years, and so must Working at Heights.

Pay, benefits and practical details

The role is described as casual, with primary location in Australia-QLD-Rockhampton & Capricorn Coast and other Queensland and New South Wales locations listed as potential sites. The work schedule includes 11-hour shifts, and the package includes accommodation and a meal allowance. There is an explicit path to join the Queensland outage team, which could lead to additional outage-related opportunities. Screening checks, including a national criminal history check and pre-employment medical with drug and alcohol screen, will be part of the process. UGL emphasises equal opportunity employment and notes that they welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, mature aged workers and individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds, as part of their commitment to a varied workforce.

UGL positions itself as a well-established contractor with a broad portfolio and a sizable workforce (over 6,000 people) under CIMIC Group ownership. The company emphasises pathways for personal growth and the space for individuals to shape their own career journey within a large, multi-market organisation.

Advice for applicants

Make sure your resume foregrounds any shutdown or outage experience, especially if you’ve worked at or near Stanwell Power Station or similar facilities, and clearly lists your HRWL level and the dates you completed any Confined Space and Working at Heights training.

Show you’ve held a White Card and that your training for Confined Space and Working at Heights was completed within the last three years. If you have accommodation or travel arrangements lined up for a short-term outage, briefly note your readiness to relocate for a 3–4 week period and to commit to 11-hour shifts.

Be ready to discuss your approach to safety, high-risk work and working within a defined outage schedule. Prepare to speak about how you’ve supported maintenance or construction teams in a shutdown environment and how you’ve aligned with safety and quality requirements in previous roles.

Consider asking about the specifics of the Queensland outage team, such as the typical outage window, the types of scaffold systems you’ll be expected to install, and how accommodation is arranged on site. A thoughtful question shows you’ve thought through the realities of outage work and the temporary nature of the assignment.
