Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a Senior AI Analyst to help Tauranga City Council identify practical opportunities for AI and automation, and turn them into solutions that make a real difference for our teams and communities.

Working closely with business units, you’ll explore where AI tools, automation, and low-code technology could improve workflows, support better decision-making, and enhance service delivery. You’ll assess opportunities, gather requirements, map processes, and help shape solutions through to implementation and adoption.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working at the intersection of people, process, and technology. You’ll be confident asking good questions, translating business needs into clear requirements, building strong relationships, and helping people feel supported as they adopt new ways of working.

What you’ll be doing

  • Working with teams across Council to identify where AI and automation can add value
  • Assessing ideas for feasibility, risk, data readiness, privacy, and responsible AI considerations
  • Gathering and documenting business requirements, user stories, process maps, and functional specifications
  • Supporting the design, testing, delivery, change management, and adoption of AI-enabled and automated solutions
  • Developing business cases and tracking benefits to show the value delivered
  • Creating prompts, templates, and AI-assisted workflows that help teams work smarter

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

We’re looking for someone with strong analysis experience, sound technology awareness, and the ability to bring people with them through change.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience working as an Analyst on technology or digital transformation projects
  • Strong skills in requirements gathering, process mapping, and turning business needs into practical solutions
  • An understanding of AI, automation, low-code technology, and how these can support better ways of working
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience developing business cases and tracking benefits realisation
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, or similar AI tools would be an advantage
  • A relevant qualification in analysis, technology, business administration, or equivalent experience. Business analysis certifications such as CBAP or IIBA would be an advantage, but aren’t essential
