Full-time
On-site
Brisbane, AU
$214,400 - $245,000 USD yearly

Vivodyne is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician to join its Brisbane, Australia team in a full-time, onsite capacity. The company builds lab-grown human tissue models to generate large-scale multi-omic data ahead of clinical trials, blending biology with robotics and AI to speed the discovery and development of therapies. Backed by notable venture funds and already partnering with a majority of the top multinational pharmaceutical companies, Vivodyne aims to reduce animal testing by delivering clinically translatable data at scale.

The Senior Bioinformatician will sit in the Software & Data Science group, tackling problems at the crossroads of biology, big data, and machine learning. The role centers on generating high-throughput -omics data from automated tissue models, with a primary focus on single-cell and bulk transcriptomics, secretomics, and proteomics. You will shape how data is processed, stored, integrated, and interpreted, making foundational decisions that influence internal research, AI/ML model development, and collaborations with external partners. This is a high-impact, cross-functional position that blends scientific inquiry with robust engineering to ensure reliable, scalable analyses.

Located onsite in Brisbane, this is a full-time position that invites collaboration across experimental biologists, AI/ML researchers, software engineers, and client-facing teams. The work demands clear thinking about what the data can tell you and how to communicate conclusions to diverse audiences, from bench scientists to decision-makers at partner organizations.

What The Senior Bioinformatician Will Do At Vivodyne

You will develop and refine analytical methods for single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing, as well as proteomics and secretomics data, tackling tasks such as quality control, normalization, batch correction, dimensionality reduction, clustering, differential expression, trajectory analysis, and multi-dataset integration. Rather than relying solely on off-the-shelf tools, you will create or adapt methods to address perturbation modeling, causal inference, network reconstruction, ligand–receptor interactions, and multi-omics integration as needed by the science. You’ll also evaluate tooling through rigorous benchmarking to ensure the chosen approaches are defensible and appropriate for the data and use-case.

What The Senior Bioinformatician Will Do At Vivodyne

In addition, you will architect end-to-end analysis pipelines in Python and/or R using modern workflow systems, aiming for reproducibility and scalability to tens or hundreds of thousands of samples. You’ll partner with software and data engineers to productionize pipelines, manage data ingestion and storage, and contribute to decisions about biological data architecture and long-term usability. Writing well-documented, testable code that colleagues can run and extend will be a key expectation.

What The Senior Bioinformatician Will Do At Vivodyne

Beyond methods and pipelines, you will drive biological insight and interpretation. You’ll own analyses to answer scientific questions and client-driven inquiries with rigor, acknowledging data limits and communicating what can be concluded with confidence. Collaboration with experimental biologists will help frame relevant questions, design analyses, and guide data-generation strategies to fill gaps. Deliverables will include publication-quality figures, internal reports, and partner-facing materials that support decision-making.

What The Senior Bioinformatician Will Do At Vivodyne

You’ll also shape data strategy by helping define benchmarking standards for tissue-model development, identifying opportunities to leverage internal and public datasets to accelerate progress, and contributing to data standards and the integration of omics features into downstream ML models and AI workflows. Clear communication across functions is essential, translating complex multi-omic results into actionable insights for biologists, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders alike.

The Right Candidate

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Systems Biology, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative field with deep focus on transcriptomics and/or proteomics.
  • 2–5 years of post-PhD experience; some industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong, hands-on proficiency in Python for bioinformatics (Scanpy and the broader scverse ecosystem in particular) with the judgment to know when existing tools are insufficient and the skill to build alternatives. Familiarity with R-based workflows (Seurat, Bioconductor, Monocle) is valued as breadth, but Python is the production language.
  • Deep experience with scRNA-seq datasets and workflows, including QC, batch correction, clustering, differential expression, annotation, and integration across experiments.
  • Experience with proteomics or secretomics analysis (Olink or similar high-dimensional panels), including normalization and cross-modality integration with transcriptomic profiles.
  • Comfort in a Unix/Linux environment with standard dev tools (git, containers, CI/CD); experience with cloud environments (AWS) and workflow managers is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with data infrastructure for large-scale biological data (e.g., AnnData/H5AD, TileDB-SOMA, or similar) is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-modal data integration (e.g., combining imaging, transcriptomics, and proteomics features).
  • Background in drug discovery, toxicology, or translational research where multi-omic data inform therapeutic decisions.
  • Experience with representation learning or ML for biological data (embeddings for cells, genes, or proteins), especially in collaboration with ML specialists.
  • Familiarity with organoids, primary tissues, or organ-on-chip systems.
