Worldline, a global payments technology company, is hiring for a Senior Database Administrator to join its on-site team in Zürich. The company serves millions of businesses across five continents and counts a global team of about 18,000 innovators who shape how the world pays and gets paid. This is a full-time on-site role for someone who wants to lead Oracle database operations in a large, regulated environment.

The role centers on Oracle databases and Exadata, ensuring performance, high availability, security, and scalability for critical payment systems in line with PCI DSS. You will help shape the stability and resilience of key data platforms and work with teams across development, SRE and infrastructure.

If you enjoy tackling complex database challenges, mentoring others, and influencing technical decisions, this opportunity could fit you. The company emphasizes clear career growth and a chance to work with colleagues around the world while remaining based in Zürich.

Day in the life with Oracle on Exadata

You’ll administer Oracle databases on Exadata, handling configuration, patching, upgrades, and leveraging Exadata features to drive performance. You’ll proactively monitor health, diagnose bottlenecks, and resolve incidents to keep payment processing available. You’ll perform root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews to prevent recurrence and strengthen resilience, and you’ll implement logging and monitoring through Oracle Enterprise Manager to gain visibility into performance.

Automation and process improvement come into play as you build provisioning and patching automation and improve consistency and traceability of all database changes. You’ll contribute to the Move to Cloud initiative by migrating and managing Exadata workloads on OCI and Exadata Cloud Services, and you’ll use Terraform and other IaC tools to provision database infrastructure as code across cloud and hybrid environments.

Collaboration is key: you’ll work with application developers, SRE and infrastructure teams to align database design, performance, and security with business objectives. You’ll communicate health, capacity planning, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and business stakeholders. You’ll provide technical leadership on Oracle and Exadata challenges and help steer novel solutions.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • More than a decade of experience in database administration with Oracle and Exadata in large, mission-critical environments.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Oracle database administration, including performance tuning, high availability, backup and recovery, patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Direct experience with Exadata, using Exadata-specific features to optimize performance and resilience; practical experience or strong interest in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Exadata Cloud Services, especially for cloud migrations.
  • A solid grasp of database security and compliance, ideally including PCI DSS requirements in payments or similarly regulated settings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of investigating complex issues and delivering durable solutions.
  • A senior ownership mentality: you take responsibility for the stability and evolution of the platform, provide technical leadership, and drive solutions for complex Oracle and Exadata challenges.
  • Fluent English; German is an advantage.

How to present yourself for this opportunity

Lead with your must-have experience at the top of your resume, highlighting more than ten years working with Oracle and Exadata in large-scale settings, plus any exposure to OCI or Exadata Cloud Services and cloud migrations.

When you describe your qualifications, include concrete outcomes from past roles, things like reduced downtime, successful patch cycles, and automated provisioning using Terraform or similar IaC tools to show you can deliver durable improvements.

Be ready for interviews by talking through collaborations with development teams, SREs, and infrastructure groups, and by outlining a cloud migration plan and examples of handling complex Oracle and Exadata challenges with leadership.

Ask a smart question about the Move to Cloud initiative, the OCI adoption roadmap, and how security and PCI DSS compliance are maintained in cloud environments to gauge how the team approaches risk and governance.
