Since 1934, the mutual insurer has served more than 1.2 million members with a broad mix of health, life, disability, dental, vision and indemnity plans, including fully insured and self-funded group coverage as well as Medicare options. This is a hybrid role based in Brooklyn, OH, requiring (3) days on-site per week, and it’s well suited for someone who likes to turn data into strategy and helps peers grow their capabilities. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you’ll deliver complex analyses and timely financial information that leadership can act on. You’ll generate management reports and coordinate with corporate departments as needed, working independently to tackle problems, drive monthly processes, and take on special projects. You’ll also share your experience by guiding teammates who are earlier in their careers, helping the team grow stronger together.

Forecasts, budgets and cross-team analysis

You’ll partner with corporate functions to produce forecasts and spot trends across several business areas, building budgets that reflect actual performance and expected income and expenses. You’ll scrutinize income statements and present recommendations to management, while handling accounting tasks like journal entries and reconciliations and ensuring accurate spending records and budget controls. When more advanced research is needed, whether it’s rates of return, depreciation, investments, or other areas, you’ll step in to deliver clear, data-driven conclusions. The role involves limited supervisory interactions with management, with opportunities to coach and mentor others on daily activities, and you’ll stay current with industry developments to propose actionable solutions to management on related business or accounting implications.

What you’ll need to join the team

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Advanced Office skills, including MS Access
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting rules and concepts and the ability to apply the appropriate accounting standards to relevant duties
  • Knowledge of rates of return, depreciation, investments, portfolio covariance analysis
  • Proficiency with other automated accounting systems and the ability to serve as a training resource to junior staff members
  • MBA or equivalent experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent preferred

Compensation, perks and the daily life

Medical Mutual backs this role with a strong mix of pay and perks. You’ll have access to an employee bonus program and a 401(k) plan with company match up to 4% plus an additional company contribution, along with a Health Savings Account that includes a company matching contribution. The benefits package covers medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, and the company also offers an Employee Assistance Program for counseling, coaching and work-life resources.

Holidays are observed and you’ll have up to 16 PTO days in the first year, with carryover options for unused time. After 120 days of service, eligible employees may take parental leave for maternity, paternity or adoption. Career development is encouraged through programs and mentoring, and tuition reimbursement up to $5,250 per year is available to help you grow. The culture emphasizes a diverse, inclusive environment with mentoring and coaching to help you advance, and there are options for on-site fitness centers or a gym membership reimbursement when there isn’t a Medical Mutual facility nearby. Equipment for the role is provided, including a laptop, monitors, keyboard, mouse and headset, and there’s an on-site cafeteria at the Brooklyn, OH headquarters. The company also offers discounts at many local places and even cash rewards for shopping with customers. The dress code is business casual, including jeans, and Medical Mutual operates as a drug-free workplace with pre-employment substance abuse and nicotine testing.

Guidance for your application

Lead with your 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience and your bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration on the top of your resume so the hiring team sees immediately that you fit the core requirements.

Demonstrate the must-have skills with concrete examples, highlight any MS Access projects, budgets you helped forecast, and analyses you conducted around rates of return, depreciation or investments, linking the results to actionable decisions.

Prepare to discuss real-world cross-department collaboration and monthly processes you’ve owned, including how you’ve mentored others or supported less-experienced teammates to improve accuracy and speed.

Ask a targeted question at the end of your interview, such as: what are the top priorities for the Senior Financial Analyst in the next 6–12 months, and how will success be measured in areas like depreciation and investment analysis?
