Job Purpose
The role will provide appropriate and competent legal assistance and advice in line with the following accountabilities and responsibilities
To establish UGL Transport’s position in contracts
To provide legal representation such that guidance is provided to UGL Transport at all levels
To ensure that UGL Transport’s operations are conducted within the limits prescribed by law, delegations of authority, all policies and further, that its rights are protected.


Key Responsibilities
Provide the Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel with assistance in organising and directing UGL Transport’s legal advice and assistance to protect UGL Transport’s interests from a legal perspective. 
Heavy involvement in negotiating, drafting and settling contracts ranging from highly technical engineering and infrastructure projects and substantial manufacturing contracts to smaller operation, maintenance, manufacturing or construction projects, as well as leases, joint venture proposals and other commercial arrangements, in order to safe guard UGL Transport’s interests. 
Attend and drive tender, contract and dispute resolution discussions and negotiations between UGL Transport and customers/suppliers as required. 
Review of all terms and conditions that are not UGL Transport standard conditions of sale. 
Report on legal risks of tenders as required by the Deputy General Counsel and the General Counsel. 
Provide assistance to project managers and contract managers involved with projects, including the setting up and monitoring of contract administration procedures. 
Manage and advise on dispute resolution. 
Provide assistance with UGL Transport’s tenders. 
Provide training to Operational staff. 
Manage external legal providers to ensure value for money and targeted advice.
Ensure that UGL Transport is in good standing and fulfils its obligations pursuant to Corporations Law and other areas regulating the conduct of corporations, including all UGL Transport policies. 
Advise UGL Transport on its rights and obligations arising pursuant to the Competition and Consumer Act.


Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Law.
Admitted as Legal Practitioner in the relevant Australian jurisdiction. 
6+ years as a qualified solicitor 
Substantial experience and expertise in engineering, infrastructure and construction contracts and operation and maintenance contracts. 
Strong understanding and experience in the commercial and legal requirements of the contract process. 
Comprehensive understanding of the general and special conditions of contracts.
