Senior Logistics Supervisor (NZ)
CMA CGMCMA CGM’s Oceania team based in Auckland is looking for a Senior Logistics Supervisor to help optimise New Zealand’s container fleet operations. The role is a permanent, full-time position with a hybrid work setup, reporting to the Intermodal & Logistics Manager (New Zealand). CMA CGM is a global container shipping group that moves more than 22 million containers each year from a network of ports around the world, and ANL is a long-standing brand within the group with extensive coverage across Oceania. The company is actively growing and inviting bold, imaginative performers who want to contribute to its ongoing transformation journey in the maritime sector.
The Senior Logistics Supervisor will focus on improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness of container fleet operations across New Zealand. The role ensures equipment availability aligns with forecast export demand, while keeping a close eye on team performance, container-related costs and operational issues. It also provides technical and administrative support to the NZ Sales Director and drives continuous improvement by aligning with quality procedures and suggesting enhancements to processes and SOPs in line with Group policies.
This position suits someone who enjoys making complex logistics feel straightforward, who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on problem solving, and who thrives when collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver reliable outcomes. If you’ve spent several years in shipping, logistics or related operations and want a broader scope across NZ, this could be a strong match.
Keeping NZ’s container operations moving
On a day-to-day basis, the role anchors national depot operations, keeping equipment stock aligned with bookings and forecast needs so ports across New Zealand stay well supplied. It also involves addressing equipment imbalances and coordinating empty container movements, with an eye toward faster repositioning and better overall efficiency. The role oversees depot, terminal and maintenance activity to speed up container availability, reduce dwell time and keep performance within agreed KPIs. In addition, it tracks container movements and operational data, EDI movements, vessel load activity, delivery orders and call closures, while producing weekly idle reporting to support smarter decisions. Cost control is another pillar, requiring you to spot savings opportunities, review logistics expenditures and code or approve invoices across transport, rail, depot, port and related services. Finally, you’ll support the team and stakeholders through training, accurate management reporting and close alignment with Operations, Trade, Space Management and other key groups, ensuring adherence to Group policies and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you’ll need to bring
- A tertiary qualification in transport, logistics or a related field, or substantial hands-on experience in the same area; a Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business or a similar discipline is preferred
- Three to five years of shipping, logistics or operations experience with a solid grasp of how day-to-day processes work
- A strong analytical mindset and technical capability, including proficient Excel skills and the ability to interpret data to support sound decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a collaborative, can-do approach and the capacity to work well both on your own and with a team
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritise, meet deadlines and follow through on issues
Nice-to-haves that could boost your application
- Experience in depot operations, equipment management or terminal activities, with a track record of improving availability and efficiency
- Familiarity with container movements data, EDI systems or other tracking tools and a knack for turning data into actionable insight
- Understanding of cost-control practices in logistics, including how transport, rail, depot, port and ancillary invoices are reviewed and approved
- Evidence of working well with diverse teams and stakeholders, including coaching or training colleagues and driving performance improvements
