Scality is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to lead and evolve the ARTESCA platform from its Paris base. This is a hybrid role, with an on-site expectation of at least two days a week in the Paris office, and the rest work from elsewhere. The company builds cyber-resilient storage solutions for modern workloads, with ARTESCA delivering immutable, zero-trust backup storage that can scale from 20TB to petabytes. If you enjoy shaping complex platforms and collaborating across disciplines to improve reliability, security, and performance, this could be a great fit.

You’ll join a compact, multi-disciplinary team of roughly seven people with backgrounds spanning production operations, development, security, and product management. They’re all open to sharing experience and helping you grow, while benefiting from what you bring to the table. You’ll also contribute to MK8s, Scality’s involvement in the open source project metalk8s, which is part of the team’s broader technical world.

Within the group, there are clear growth paths: you can stay as an individual contributor, or evolve into a feature lead, technical lead, architect, product owner, or team leader. The role blends deep platform work with opportunities to influence the product and its deployment workflows, all while working on a project that sits at the intersection of security, resilience and scale.

Shaping the ARTESCA backbone, day to day

Your main mission is to build and maintain the platform that underpins ARTESCA. That means taking ownership of the operating system and the Kubernetes control plane, as well as the workers and the add-ons, ensuring the platform supports ARTESCA in its software appliance, hardware appliance, virtual appliance, and ARTESCA+ Veeam all-in-one deployments. You’ll harden security and compliance across the stack, applying CIS benchmarks, managing SBOMs and vulnerability tooling, and overseeing secret management to support cyber resilience and the Cyber Guarantee.

Part of your daily work is contributing to installer and product workflows, facilitating multi-node and high-availability deployments, keeping state and pre-checks in good shape, and building cloud or vendor integrations (like AWS or VMware) for guided deployments. You’ll also own upgrades and lifecycle management, including OS and Kubernetes versions, Helm charts, operators, and base images, so ARTESCA remains secure, easy to deploy, and ready for fast restores. You’ll strive to keep ARTESCA intuitive, low-touch, and recovery-ready at scale by drafting and maintaining operations and installation documentation, writing integration and stability tests, and improving CI/CD through GitHub Actions and automated testing that supports reliable releases.

There’s also a commitment to AI-assisted engineering. The team uses AI tools as part of the workflow to explore code, generate implementations, and debug the system. You’ll validate and refine AI-generated code in production-grade environments, while understanding AI limitations and maintaining strong ownership of system correctness and behavior.

What Scality needs from you, and what would help you stand out

  • You bring five or more years of experience as a systems administrator or SRE, with a proven track record of operating robust Linux environments.
  • You are fluent in French for daily collaboration, and you have a solid working level of English to interact with other teams.
  • You have expert Linux administration skills, especially on RHEL or Rocky Linux, and you’re comfortable with network fundamentals including CNI, VLANs, VIPs, DNS, L2/L3 switching, and load balancing.
  • You’ve got a strong background in security, compliance and hardening Linux, with familiarity with CIS benchmarks, SELinux, and vulnerability management practices.
  • You’re comfortable with a DevOps mindset: you code, you understand how code behaves in production, and you can work across the infrastructure, the code, and the CI pipeline.
  • You’ve automated deployments before (PXE, custom ISO, kickstart, and VM images) and you’ve worked with Salt or another orchestration tool such as Ansible.
  • You’ve seen hardened Kubernetes stacks (rootless or distroless setups, policy engines) and you can script in Python and Bash. You’re also comfortable with CI systems and Git workflows.
  • You have experience with the full stack of tools in Scality’s tech list: Git/GitHub, GitHub Actions, and observability tooling, plus exposure to virtualization platforms and multiple cloud labs.
  • Bonus skills that would help you stand out include development experience in Golang, installer/product experience for multi-cloud and air-gapped systems, and a documentation-driven approach. PKI and cert-manager know-how, the ability to author custom SELinux policies, familiarity with FIPS and LUKS, and RHEL certifications all count as nice-to-haves. Additional cloud engineering chops (AWS, Terraform, Pulumi) and broader familiarity with Scality’s stack would also be beneficial.

What you’ll get in return

Life at Scality includes a hybrid work model with a baseline requirement of two days per week in the Paris office, plus opportunities to work remotely. The company supports career growth through access to training and professional certification programs, and it runs sports and wellness initiatives along with social responsibility activities. A stock options program is in place so your contributions can be rewarded over the long term. Scality values international collaboration, offering a chance to work with colleagues across Europe and Asia, while staying anchored in the Paris office for part of the week.

As a foundation, Scality promotes an internal motto to guide work: work hard, play hard, eat well and amaze the customer. The company also emphasises diversity and equal opportunity, welcoming applicants of all backgrounds, identities and abilities.

Pro tips for your application

Put your five-plus years of Sysadmin/SRE work up front, and highlight your hands-on Linux experience with Rocky or RHEL, plus concrete networking and security achievements. Show how you’ve driven secure, scalable deployments and how you’ve collaborated with cross-functional teams to deliver platform reliability.

Demonstrate the must-have skills with concrete examples: a multi-node, high-availability deployment you’ve led or significantly contributed to, experience with Salt or Ansible, and a hardened Kubernetes stack you’ve built or maintained. Include specific projects where you automated deployment, managed upgrades, and supported CI/CD pipelines.

Be ready to talk about AI-assisted engineering: a practical case where you used AI to explore code or diagnose a problem, and how you guarded correctness and system behaviour while benefiting from AI acceleration.

Ask a thoughtful question about ARTESCA’s roadmap and deployment strategies, for instance how the team plans multi-cloud or vendor integrations, what role AI-assisted tooling will play in future releases, or how they balance security, compliance, and rapid delivery in large-scale backups.

Finally, be prepared to discuss how you communicate complex technical concepts to a mixed team, and to share an example of how you’ve mentored others or helped shape a team’s technical direction.
