He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

 

Join a new Recovery Team in Auckland Emergency Management and help ensure Auckland is well positioned to recover from future emergencies. 

 

As Principal Recovery Advisor, you will provide high quality advice to shape the council’s recovery strategy and guide delivery when events occur. 

 

You will work on: 

  • Providing evidence-based advice to develop Auckland’s strategic and operational recovery frameworks 
  • Applying lessons from the 2023 severe weather events  
  • Strengthening integration across the region for readiness, response, recovery and resilience 
  • Building capability across the council to ensure recovery systems and processes are well established 
  • Developing strong relationships with agencies, iwi, communities and other councils 
  • Supporting the establishment and operation of the Recovery Function during emergency events 

 

You’ll work closely with operational teams, senior leaders, elected members and partner agencies.

You’re an experienced local government professional who is confident providing advice in complex environments. You understand crisis and issues management and can work with diverse stakeholders to deliver practical, effective strategies. 

 

You bring: 

  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate frameworks into delivery 
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and relationshipbuilding skills 
  • The ability to provide highquality advice under pressure 
  • Knowledge of the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS), or the ability to gain certification within six months
