We’re looking for a Solar Design Engineer at Senior or Principal level to join our team in New Zealand and to represent Worley with Asset Owners, developers and grid owners. You will deliver primary substation design and grid-connection engineering for renewable, industrial electrification and network upgrade projects.

What you’ll do


•    PV array electrical design (stringing, combiner/inverter allocation), cable sizing, losses, and pitch optimisation.
•    Equipment selection and specification (modules, trackers, combiner boxes, inverters).
•    Earthing and bonding requirements within the solar field (coordination with substation/tie‑in).
•    Cable layouts, including trench design.
•    Produce design drawings, single-line and multi-line DC schematics, cable schedules, BOQs, and IFC packages.
•    Apply Worley QA/QC processes; lead internal design reviews, resolve interdisciplinary TQs/RFIs.
•    Prepare/validate PVsyst (or equivalent) models, uncertainty analysis.
•    Experienced with PR test methodology.
•    Commissioning assistance.
•    Coordinate with AC/BOP engineers on MV reticulation, interconnection, and protection boundaries.
•    Collaborate with Owner’s Engineer and EPC contractor teams during design and construction.
•    Apply NZ/AU standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 4777 series, AS/NZS 5033), IEC norms, and client specifications.
•    Mentor junior engineers; support bid inputs and scope definition.

About You


•    Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering.
•    Significant utility‑scale solar PV/DC detailed design experience; proven delivery of IFC packages.
•    Proficiency in PVsyst, AutoCAD (or equivalent), and preferably one power system platform (ETAP, DIgSILENT).
•    Familiarity with tracker systems, inverter topologies, and high‑current DC protection/coordination.
•    Experience with PR testing, SAT/FAT witnessing, and hybrid PV+BESS integration.
•    Strong design optimisation mindset (LCOE/Capex trade‑offs).
•    Clear technical writing; client‑facing when required.
•    Works effectively in multi‑disciplinary/global teams; proactive risk identification and mitigation.
•    Leadership in design assurance and mentoring.
