Job Description

AECOM's environmental practice is dedicated to helping industries, clients and governments meet their environmental responsibilities while protecting the natural environment. We provide advisory and technical services to ensure compliance, manage impacts and reduce risks, including obtaining permits and approvals, restoring contaminated sites, and helping organisations respond to climate change.

Our Sustainability and Resilience team helps organisations, governments and communities prepare for the challenges of a changing climate while creating more sustainable and resilient places. We work across climate resilience, sustainability, ESG, nature-based solutions and corporate strategy, partnering with clients to deliver practical solutions that create long-term value.

We are one of the most trusted and respected Sustainability and Resilience practices across Australia and New Zealand, with specialists working collaboratively across the region. Our Brisbane team is growing, and we're looking for an experienced consultant who is passionate about sustainability and climate resilience to join us.

You'll work alongside industry-leading specialists and collaborate with clients across government, infrastructure, transport, water, energy and the private sector. As part of AECOM's global network, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to major national projects, including our role as the delivery partner for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The work you'll be exposed to

Our team works across every aspect of the climate resilience and sustainability agenda, including:

  • Climate Resilience including physical and transition climate risk assessments, scenario analysis, climate vulnerability assessments, heat mapping, urban and community resilience, natural climate solutions and digital innovation.
  • Sustainability including ESG materiality assessments, Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Ratings, corporate and project sustainability strategies, and sustainability advisory.
  • Nature-based Solutions including natural capital accounting, TNFD and nature-positive strategy development, biodiversity market analysis and innovative digital tools.
  • Supporting organisations to navigate evolving sustainability reporting and disclosure requirements while embedding resilience into long-term business strategy.

How you'll make a difference

As part of our Sustainability and Resilience Practice, you'll work within multidisciplinary teams to help clients understand climate risks, improve sustainability performance and develop practical strategies for the future.

Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Delivering projects across climate resilience, sustainability, ESG and nature-based solutions for public and private sector clients.
  • Providing evidence-based advice on climate change impacts and identifying practical adaptation and resilience measures.
  • Supporting climate risk assessments, scenario analysis, climate vulnerability assessments and resilience planning.
  • Contributing to sustainability strategy development, ESG materiality assessments and corporate disclosure reporting.
  • Working collaboratively with engineers, planners, economists, scientists and environmental specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships while supporting business development opportunities across the practice.
  • Contributing to the development of innovative digital tools and approaches that improve project delivery and client outcomes.
  • Preparing high-quality reports, presentations and technical advice for a diverse range of clients.

Qualifications

What are we looking for from you?

You are first and foremost, a team player with a high level of self-awareness, strong communication and listening skills and demonstrated commercial acumen. Utilising your experience working in climate risk and resilience and or sustainability, you will have proven ability in project delivery, be a critical thinker with experience in business development and/ or building strong client relationships. Your collaborative approach and willingness to think creatively and innovatively in problem solving for clients will see you succeed in this role.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in climate change, sustainability, environmental engineering, environmental science or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in sustainability, environmental or climate resilience consulting.
  • Experience delivering multidisciplinary projects while meeting project objectives, budgets and timeframes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
  • Experience developing or applying digital tools and innovative approaches to support consulting outcomes.
  • A proactive approach to business development, client relationship management and delivering technical excellence.
