The Role

CAE is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Simulator Technician III to join our team at our Sydney Training Centre in St Peters, NSW.

This senior technical role is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of CAE's Full Flight Simulators and training devices. You will play a key role in supporting pilot training operations, leading technical activities across shifts, and mentoring developing technicians.

Key Responsibilities

As a Simulator Technician III, you will:

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, fault isolation, and corrective maintenance on flight simulators and associated systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities to ensure maximum simulator availability and reliability.
  • Perform visual alignments, calibration activities, and system performance checks.
  • Execute, analyse, and evaluate Qualification Test Guide (QTG) and Approval Test Guide (ATG) procedures.
  • Lead and coordinate technical activities during shifts in collaboration with the Group Leader, Maintenance Planner, and Technical Management team.
  • Provide technical mentoring, coaching, and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
  • Support engineering projects involving hardware modifications, software updates, and simulator upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CAE's maintenance management system.
  • Ensure compliance with CASA, OEM, customer, and CAE quality and safety requirements.
  • Assist with logistics activities including parts management, repair tracking, inventory control, and vendor coordination.
  • Support customer operations and contribute to the resolution of technical issues affecting training delivery.
  • Make technical and operational decisions during periods where management is not present to ensure continuity of simulator operations.

Qualifications & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A technical trade qualification, diploma, degree, or equivalent technical training in electronics, electrical, mechanical, aviation, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in simulator maintenance, aviation maintenance, defence systems, industrial automation, or a comparable technical environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across electrical, electronic, mechanical, computer, and network-based systems.
  • Experience using test equipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one major simulator system such as:
    • Motion systems
    • Visual systems
    • Aircraft systems
    • Computer or network infrastructure
  • Experience leading technical activities and mentoring team members.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work 4 days on and off (Day, day, night night) rotating roster from 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am.
