Cascades is looking for a Skid Steer Operator to join its Etobicoke site. The job is onsite, full-time, with a daytime schedule that fits a steady production rhythm. It’s a hands-on role for someone who enjoys operating heavy equipment, coordinating material flow, and keeping safety front and center in a busy plant environment.

The company builds environmentally mindful products and emphasizes safety and reliability in its operations. In this role you’ll contribute to moving materials through the plant, from receiving and bale processing to loading and feeding the conveyor system, while adhering to health and safety rules. The posted compensation includes a starting wage of $21.15/hr, paid weekly, along with an annual target of 42,000 CAD and a solid benefits package, profit sharing, and employee share purchase options. Cascades also offers telemedicine and an Employee Assistance Program, reflecting their commitment to both physical and mental well-being. Cascades values diversity and inclusion and considers all applications equitably.

On the ground, you’ll be part of a team where attention to detail and accountability matter. If you’re practical, safety-minded, and motivated by a stable full-time role with room to grow, this could be a fit.

The Work You’ll Do as a Skid Steer Operator

As a Skid Steer Operator, you’ll coordinate the receipt of materials for bale processing and safely operate a Skid Steer to load loose product onto the conveyor system. Your daily responsibilities blend hands-on operation with careful coordination across the plant to keep material moving and the floor safe.

Day-to-day you’ll inspect equipment, load product from storage areas, and process materials according to the Plant Supervisor’s instructions, while also grading and sorting bulk loads and maintaining radio contact with the Baler Operator to keep baling activities aligned. You’ll load materials onto the conveyor system, ensure containers and equipment are clean and in good working condition, and maintain clear access to dumping areas for incoming vehicles. You’ll escort vehicles to their designated dumping zones, stockpile materials to make room for new loads, and perform traffic control duties for inbound trucks and in-plant operators. Keeping the workspace orderly and safe, following plant safety rules and wearing the required PPE are part of the job, along with practicing lockout/tagout when maintenance or cleaning is required and using air hoses or similar equipment safely. You may also be asked to take on other duties as operational needs change.

Advice for Applicants for the Skid Steer Operator Role

Lead your resume with your skid steer certification and the three months of related experience you’ve logged, so the recruiter sees you meet the core must-haves right away.

When you describe your background, add concrete examples that prove you can solve problems on the fly, work independently, and keep a clean, safe workspace. Mention specific tasks like equipment inspections, loading materials, coordinating with the Baler Operator, and maintaining access to dumping areas.

Be ready for interview questions about safety workflows, particularly lockout/tagout and PPE, and how you keep housekeeping standards up in a plant setting. Explain how you’ve applied safety rules in everyday tasks and how you stay compliant with procedures in a busy environment.

Ask a focused question to show you’re thinking about how this team operates. For example: what safety training and refreshers are provided for this role, and how is performance measured in day-to-day operations and material flow? You could also ask about opportunities for additional training or certification once you’re hired.
