Social Media & Digital Communications Specialist
Rocket Lab USARocket Lab, the end-to-end space company behind rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems that keep the world connected and humanity’s reach expanding, is looking for a Social Media & Digital Communications Specialist to join the Auckland team on site. The role sits in a fast-moving communications group that turns complex rocket science into compelling stories with global reach. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on real-time storytelling and wants to help shape the voice of a business pushing humanity toward the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
Based in Auckland, the role lives in a high-energy, mission-driven environment where you’ll work across time zones and respond to milestones as they happen. It’s not a routine 9-to-5, launches at 3:00 AM and dynamic events can require quick turns and on-the-ground involvement. If you’re excited by the idea of running one of the most watched feeds in space while collaborating with engineers, operators, and production teams, this could be the right fit.
For candidates in New Zealand, background checks will be undertaken prior to any employment offers to support ITAR eligibility for access to equipment and data regulated under U.S. export controls. Nationality checks may be part of the process to confirm eligibility to handle ITAR-regulated information and assets.
The Work You’ll Do Day To Day
You’ll build and maintain a robust digital content engine, planning an aggressive editorial calendar that aligns with missions, program milestones, and the company’s strategic goals, and you’ll own day-to-day execution across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Bluesky, subscriber newsletters and emerging platforms. You’ll tailor content for a broad audience spanning B2B and B2G audiences, talent candidates, investors, and fans, ensuring messages land with clarity and impact.
Real-time coverage is a core part of the role; you’ll work with media content producers to capture, package, and publish live coverage for launches, hot fires, spacecraft deployments, trade shows, and major company milestones. You’ll translate technical achievements into sharp, accessible content by partnering directly with engineers, mission operators, and production teams, turning complex ideas into copy and visuals that resonate across channels. You’ll monitor platform analytics, spot trends early, experiment with new formats and AI tools, and continually optimize for reach and engagement while guarding Rocket Lab’s distinctive voice and high standards.
The position combines strategy with hands-on execution. It requires daily collaboration, from drafting posts and editing clips to publishing and testing new distribution approaches that keep the company ahead of the aerospace communications curve. You will be on the tools every day, and you can expect to live-tweet countdowns, visit the factory floor for authentic stories, and drive projects from concept to feed.
The Right Candidate For This Role
Must have at least five years of experience running high-growth, high-engagement social channels and digital campaigns for a fast-moving brand. A strong portfolio showing campaigns you personally built and executed is essential. The role requires experience across both organic and paid social campaigns, with a solid grasp of how to deploy paid and organic strategies to support business goals. You should be flexible enough to travel and support on-site activations and events across time zones.
Nice-to-have items include a bachelor’s degree, the ability to distill complex ideas into concise, punchy copy with meticulous attention to detail, and a mindset of extreme ownership where you don’t wait for a brief, if you see what needs doing, you jump in and get it done. Calm, decisive judgment during breaking news or countdowns is highly valued, as is experience in aerospace, defence, motorsport, or tech. An authentic passion for space exploration, hands-on photo/video capture and mobile editing skills, and startup experience are welcomed extras.
