Specialist, Regulatory Affairs
EPCOREPCOR is hiring a full-time, permanent Specialist, Regulatory Affairs to support its Electricity Operations from Edmonton, AB. The role sits in the Regulatory Affairs team and centers on planning, coordinating, preparing and defending regulatory submissions, with the aim of keeping projects on track from filing through to implementation. It’s a good fit for someone who can translate complex rules into clear filings and who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams to protect EPCOR’s regulatory and financial interests.
The company is a well-established utility with a strong footprint in Alberta. This position offers a hybrid work option, reflecting EPCOR's flexible approach to work arrangements. If you’re comfortable working from Edmonton and meeting the needs of a distributed regulatory function, this role could match your experience and ambitions.
If you’re detail-oriented, analytical and comfortable working with data at scale, you’ll likely feel at home in this job. The assignment involves owning regulatory plans, building relationships across EPCOR, and guiding teams to ensure regulatory applications are thorough, accurate and submitted on time.
What you’ll do day to day in the regulatory arena
In this role you’ll lead the planning and coordination of regulatory activities, shaping the direction of the Regulatory Affairs group and ensuring the budget supports all regulatory submissions. You’ll be responsible for turning regulatory strategy into concrete deliverables and aligning the work with an overall business plan that includes mission, values and resource planning.
You’ll drive the delivery of results against performance targets, especially around the timely preparation of Distribution Regulatory Applications and other major regulatory submissions, such as AUC rule reporting, grant applications and AESO matters. You’ll also design, implement and continually improve distribution regulatory processes to stay compliant with policies, standards and regulatory requirements while minimizing risk and improving service delivery. Leading the preparation of submissions and coordinating with other departments to gather content, you’ll draft different sections, conduct quantitative and strategic analysis, and provide guidance on regulatory requirements.
Relationships matter here. You’ll maintain positive connections with internal groups and external bodies, like AESO, AUC, government and industry stakeholders, to ensure regulatory initiatives move forward. You’ll work with the Associate Director to refine regulatory processes and, when needed, take the lead in situations where supervision is light and staff work is distributed. You’ll also help prepare evidence, information requests and arguments for hearings, and you may be called on to serve as an EPCOR witness during oral hearings when required.
