Rotorua Lakes Council is looking for a Sports Field Specialist (Cricket) to help care for our parks, reserves, and sports fields so they remain safe, welcoming, and ready for everyone to enjoy.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the day to day preparation & maintenance of the cricket wickets and other sports turf areas within the network. Your work will include mowing, line marking, renovation work, fertilising, chemical application and other general turf maintenance duties to keep our fields in top condition for local clubs, schools, and community events. You’ll also help prepare fields for scheduled sports games and undertake renovation work when needed. The position involves operating a range of equipment, including ride on mowers, tractors, line markers, and other specialist turf care machinery, while ensuring everything is used safely and maintained to a high standard.

From time to time, you’ll also support the wider grounds team with general maintenance such as planting, weeding, pruning, and caring for public spaces and amenities. As someone who is proud of the work they do, you’ll represent Council positively when interacting with the public and contribute to a safe and respectful workplace by following all health and safety procedures.

To thrive in this role, you’ll ideally bring experience in turf or sports field maintenance, along with practical skills in equipment operation and general horticulture. A certificate in Turf Management or Horticulture is an advantage, though equivalent experience will also be considered. A full driver’s licence is required, and any machinery or growsafe endorsements will be helpful. Most importantly, you’ll be reliable, adaptable, a strong team player, and someone who enjoys working outdoors in a hands on environment.
