Structural Steel Material Handling Specialist

Position Overview

We are looking for a versatile Material Handling Specialist to support both shop and yard operations at a structural steel fabrication facility. This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility, as daily assignments may vary depending on production needs.

The successful candidate will assist with moving materials, operating heavy equipment, organizing inventory, and supporting multiple departments to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Transport, stage, and organize structural steel materials throughout the shop and yard.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes to move large steel components.
  • Operate forklifts, Pettibone equipment, and telehandlers to transport materials.
  • Move and position trailers within the yard as needed.
  • Unload incoming deliveries and stage materials for production or storage.
  • Assist with skidding materials and preparing products for shipment.
  • Operate production equipment when additional support is required.
  • Perform parts cleaning to help prepare materials for fabrication or shipment.
  • Assist with inventory control and material tracking.
  • Follow all company safety policies while operating equipment and handling materials.
  • Provide support across multiple departments to meet daily production goals.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and contribute to a productive team environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience operating overhead cranes.
  • Experience operating telehandlers or Pettibone equipment.
  • Experience with material handling in a warehouse, fabrication, or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Some experience working with structural steel.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other industrial equipment.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and perform a variety of tasks throughout the day.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Manufacturing or industrial experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
