An exciting opportunity to lead Auckland Council’s Building Consents Technical Training team, guiding 10 to 13 direct reports and developing tomorrow’s building professionals while safeguarding accreditation and high standards in building consent practice across Tāmaki Makaurau. You’ll recruit and mentor graduates through the graduate programme, develop a robust competency framework, and own key training initiatives including the Auckland Council Training Schools for residential and commercial work. In your application, demonstrate strong technical leadership in building control, deep knowledge of the Building Act, NZ Building Code, Local Government Act, and experience delivering effective training and assessment. Auckland Council’s Building Consents department has an opportunity for a Team Leader Technical Training within the Building Consents Capability team. This role suits someone who thrives on developing people, strengthening technical capability, and shaping high‑quality building consent practice across Tāmaki Makaurau. You’ll lead a team of experienced trainers who provide technical regulatory training to the department. You will also recruit and support the Graduates within building consents throughout their journey in the graduate programme at Auckland Council.
Your leadership will help maintain accreditation, lift technical capability and ensure high standards are upheld across our building control functions as well as enabling developmental pathways for career opportunities within the department and the sector.

This role requires experience in similar technical leadership roles, with a sound understanding of building control functions and the delivery of training. You’ll be someone who enjoys guiding others, building strong relationships, and creating an environment where technical excellence can thrive. Your ability to interpret core learning needs, support the development of new technical staff and ensure there are functioning developmental pathways for all staff will be key to your success.
