Job Description

The Customer Data & Analytics team is responsible for managing the delivery of our core data services. Each day energy retailers rely on the data we deliver to underpin their customer experience. It’s used in mobile apps and websites, in consumer billing, and market settlements. Our role is to ensure that retailers receive timely, high-quality data that supports them in delivering a great experience to their customers.

As a Technical Business Analyst, you will work collaboratively across the wider NZ business to investigate situations where our end-to-end delivery can be improved. This will often involve complex systems, multiple teams, and vendors from across our business. Once you understand where we need to improve you will also lead engagement with business and IT teams, along with vendors, to drive the definition and delivery of solutions that improve outcomes for all involved. As part of your role you will; 

  • Lead incident triage, working with operational and technical teams to assess business impact and drive effective, future‑proof solutions
  • Define and shape improvement initiatives, capturing requirements and ensuring technical solutions align with business needs
  • Assess the impact of key initiatives including regulatory changes across people, processes, and systems, and work with technical teams on cost and timelines
  • Engage with customers to understand pain points and feed insights into incidents or improvement initiatives
  • Champion continuous improvement and automation to boost efficiency and enhance customer outcomes
  • Project manage small initiatives, providing clear progress updates and delivering agreed scope
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships across the business to influence data‑driven decisions
  • Actively invest in your professional developmenent, staying current with industry trends and best practices
  • Promote a safe, healthy work environment and contribute to ongoing quality and performance improvements through full policy compliance

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a blend of analytical capability, stakeholder influence, and operational expertise. You’ll be comfortable navigating complex environments, working across teams, and translating business needs into real, impactful outcomes. Success here comes from strong communication, a passion for improvement, and the ability to balance structure with initiative. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline 
  • 4+ years of experience in a similar role is essential
  • Prior experience in electricity, gas, water or telco would be beneficial
  • Experience working with stakeholders to triage IT incidents and then liaise with technical teams to facilitate resolution and service restoration
  • Experience working with stakeholders to analyse business needs, create initiative canvasses, capture requirements, liaise with technical delivery staff through delivery, and ensure fit against requirements
  • Strong process improvement skills such as leading workshops, documenting process flows and work instructions, and mapping data flows
  • Experience related to automation of manual business processes would be very beneficial
  • Prior exposure to impact assessment for regulatory consultations would be beneficial
  • Ability to project manage small initiatives through delivery across multiple contributors
  • Prior knowledge and experience with change management tools and techniques is beneficial
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills to influence at all levels 
  • Strong stakeholder management & conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a wide variety of people and organisational levels
  • High customer service focus with a pro-active approach to problem-solving
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work autonomously
