Meridian Energy is expanding its technical leadership team in Wellington, offering a hybrid role that brings hands-on influence to cross-functional squads. As New Zealand’s largest renewable electricity producer, Meridian and its Powershop brand power more than 400,000 homes, businesses and farms across the country, with Meridian drawing energy from wind, water and sun. You’ll lead technical discussions within cross-functional teams, shaping how new capabilities are built and how existing systems are extended. You’ll oversee the creation and integration of solutions that are secure and scalable, while supporting smooth handovers to operations and ensuring ongoing platform health. Building strong relationships with stakeholders and contributing to communities of practice are part of the rhythm, as is guiding incident response and maintaining existing platforms to keep the energy system reliable.

Advice for applicants
Start your resume with a short profile that foregrounds cloud, DevOps, automation and secure design, plus enterprise solution architecture experience. This helps the hiring team see that you’re prepared to lead technically across squads and to influence architecture decisions early in the process.
When you talk about your experience, give concrete examples that prove you can meet the must-have capabilities: lead design for scalable and secure solutions, review vendor offerings, automate business logic, collaborate across functions, and document architectures clearly. If you’ve worked on enterprise integrations or complex systems, pull those stories forward with measurable outcomes and the specific technologies involved.
For interviews, prepare to recount a complex technical challenge you solved end-to-end, including how you ensured scalability, maintainability and testability, how you coordinated with cross-functional teams, and how you handled incident response. Bring a few concise stories that show your approach to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Finally, consider asking a targeted question that shows you’re thinking about real-world impact, such as how the teams measure success for a Technical Lead, how vendor solution reviews are integrated into delivery, or what current platforms and integrations are in play (for example Oracle, Maximo, Azure, MS365, DataBricks, SQL Server).
